For whatever reason, I thought there was a statement about using 89. I run 93 all of the time, and try to always use a Top Tier fuel for the detergent properties as these DI engines need as much help as you can give them to stay clean (running around at redline all of the time would be fun, but simply not possible). Five years of ownership (just over, actually). 78,000 miles driven (roughly). 4,647 gallons of gas pumped, ALL of it 87 octane. Total cost to me for all of that gas was $10,880. Broken out over five years, that's $2176/year or around $181/month. If I had used 93 octane, assuming an overall average difference in price of $.35/gal, the additional cost to me would have been $1626.45. Broken out over the same five years of ownership, it's $325/year, or around $27/month. And that's all based on driving an average of well over 15k/year. When you're talking about a $50k vehicle and driving it a LOT, the additional cost for premium fuel is negligible. If it's a garage queen, the delta in fuel cost isn't even worth thinking about. |

I actually found this to be one of the best things about this car, averaging 24 mpg with a 455 HP v8 is absolutely amazing. My previous V8 Camaros could never touch that. |

The last generation of the F-bodies with the 300 horse 350 and 6 speed could get high 20s on the highway from what I understand. The way it was geared the RPMs in the 1998-2002 Z28 in 6th at 70 may be even lower than 6th on the 6th gen SS.

Again, it depends on the gas mileage you are comparing to. No info as to what kind of car the buyer is used to.
My RX-8 only does marginally better than the Camaro in the city(like 1 or 2 MPG better) and I drive both of them spiritedly while on the highway, it's actually a lot worse. I think the best tank I managed in that car was 20 MPG when it was 90% highway. The Camaro can manage 25+MPG without trying. This is especially considering the RX-8 made 1/2 the peak horsepower and 1/3 of the peak torque of the Camaro SS. I still liked the car, but the gas mileage is a big weak point for that car. So the gas mileage for the Camaro is fine for me. Of course, I am not sure how others think. Sent from toaster or something

But as a fun car, yeah, I don't worry about it too much. I do track the gas mileage, but that's just a habit of mine as I am always curious about this kind of stuff. Quote:
It's still got its own share of fans, and I get why. Made a lot of friends in my RX-8 and it was a good car to get my feet wet with an RWD sports car before I potentially kill myself in something very powerful.

With gas at less than 2 bucks, who cares about economy?
However it should be a back up to 5 bucks in the next four years.... |

I hear ya. Just know that the A8 in the C7 is a completely different animal than the A8 in Camaro and trucks and the A10 is a third different animal.

I heard the most beautiful sound the other day. I was sitting at a red light and there sat a pristine black rx7 sitting in the turning lane. ::sad face:: I promise that guy has never been bummed about his MPG's, size or power. No matter how bad I would have stomped his ass in any situation.
