GM Authority says announced recently, but it's been a known model for 2 years now.

The videos I have seen of the big aero car sounded like a manual. It was shifting too slow to be a DCT.

The transmission is over 4 years old already. Tremec most likely developed it for the big 2.5 to use in their performance cars, but I know that in the case for GM, the DCT does not work well with cylinder deactivation so they decided not to use it.
American drivers also have high expectations for smooth driveability at lower speeds which a DCT cannot deliver. Therefore, they stick with conventional automatics. Now, it could end up in the mid-engine Corvette. |

Where this trans will shine is on the track, shifting is fast at high speed, and it will take a lot of more power then we will get from GM, LOL

Had read like a week ago that its been slated for the C8, but its possible it could show up sooner in either the Z/28 or the C7 ZR1. Many of the auto magazines are claiming the GT350 and R are slatted to receive a DCT.

do ppl still make the argument that a torque converter is better than a DCT other than long term use for 1/4 mile?

If your #1 concern is having the fastest possible overall shifts -whether its up or down, manual or automatic, and you don't care about (or enjoy) very abrupt shifts then a DCT is for you. However, if you want smooth shifts for a daily driver, fast upshifts when letting your automatic transmission do its thing automatically, and don't care how fast it shifts otherwise ... a torque converter is perfect. Turns out, most people fall into camp #2. Hence their overwhelming popularity. Would a DCT make sense for a Z/28? Sure. Just as a torque converter makes sense for a ZL1.
