Should I upgrade my axle shafts?

Hello,

Recently, I am enjoying drag race and rolling race.

One thing I am concerning is the limit of drive-trains like trans, diff and shafts as the power goes up to 900 rwhp range with PD blower.

I drive only non-prepped tracks or streets and so far it was ok , but...

My question is

should I change the drive shaft and axle shaft on the street drag racing with DRs? I think tires break loose first before the motor breaks the shafts, but who know. The best thing is to change them all, but they are quite expensive. not sure they are worth on the street.

Here is my experience with a blower & drag radials with the stock driveshaft...

I’ll be doing the axles soon too before going back to the track!

I never broke a stock axle even up to 800 rwhp but when I went to my 2650 I decided it was time. I have DSS axles and DS.

Knowing nothing about your car setup I think on a street surface you'll be fine, its when the tires bite that you run into problems....and I would assume grip is illusive on a regular road.

I've broken a driveshaft, a coupler, and 2 half shafts all on prepped surfaces. I'm not making nowhere near your power but I live in the 1.3x 60' zone at the track (on a radial)

I'm curious what kind of cars you're up against making that much steam ?

He has a 2650 Maggie with his build and they do drag race in Korea. Not sure how they prep the tracks there. Yes sometimes dead hooking will do some bad things to the drive train. I found that out with an aftermarket DS as the LS Fest.

Thank you for all advise. I made 905 rwhp with 93oct , meth injection and 2650 maggie.
and using 315 hoosier A7 and planning to try M/T street R 325 35 18.

Actually there are no prepped tracked and even no burn out allowed. So...never got the "dead hook". I would like to see 9.xx sec, so I am trying. Now my record is only 10.6et.

When I decided to get some DR's for the track I decided to do axles and a driveshaft at the same time. Mind you only 650 rwhp with a whipple. My thought process was I would rather be safe than sorry. Didnt want to risk breaking an axle or drivefhaft and tear up other components if something broke or even worse like hitting the wall. So since I am an M6, my weakest link is the stock clutch and I am ok wearing that thing out. Like Laynlo15 and others they were just fine on stock components, others have not been, its a risk you take. I want with DSS axles and an aluminum Gforce driveshaft.

Thank you for advise. Which one is better btw Gforce axles(Outlaw and renegade) and DSS?

This, plus what about the GM drag race ZL1 axles they are like 1000 bucks , it says they can handle 5000lb ft torque. But what's that calculate to rwhp

I read the DSS axles had issues so I went with the GeForce Outlaw axles, they are good to 1400 hp.

I can not speak to which are better. I have the DSS shafts, based on price. I figured they were an upgrade over stock, and thats hwat i was looking for. Seemed to be a quality product, they fit just fine and I have not had any issues. They only thing i was a little disappointed in was there was no new hardware for the diff side of the axle.
