I got lucky and didn't break my stock drive shaft but I did break a GForce Aluminum DS at the LS Fest last year and I did have a BMR Loop I now run a Chromoly DSS. Even without a loop the drive shaft is not coming out the bottom if you have full exhaust. Its a pain in the ass just to get it out on a lift with all the shit you have to take out but could damage other shit underneath and the floor. Hope everything is ok and just need a new DS. If you have big power trailer your car to the track.

Guys, remember that this car is a ZL1, that has a stronger driveshaft than our SS cars came with. Seen plenty of guys posting 9-second slips with stock ZL1 drivelines, this is the first time that I've seen someone report a ZL1 driveshaft breaking.

As far as replacement options, I have seen a QA1 carbon shaft (for an SS) and that thing looked pretty beefy. Advertised to handle 1000 lb/ft of torque, it was slightly lighter than an SS shaft, so probably noticeably lighter than the ZL1? I know someone that installed a carbon shaft on a CTS-V3 (another LT4 car) and he said that the carbon shaft was noticeably lighter than stock in that case.

I won’t be able to look under the car until tomorrow but will probably be ordering new driveshaft and stronger axles to go with it. The track here used to be crap but now under new management and at bout 200 ft my shoe was coming off my foot. Sticky like crazy!

Gotta ask, how far away was the track and how did you get her home?

Flat bed unfortunately. Cost a ton but at least the guy was delicate. Took his time. All my friends with trailer were heading to Houston and Louisiana to do the Race Armada (RATX). Track is about 40miles away. It was a bad situation but it’ll get sorted out.

I still have no idea what this car can do. First pass I launched at about 1000rpm and did 1/3 throttle for the first 100ft then punched it. 60’ was a 2.0 with 11.1 time at 137mph. Second run broke.

137 MPH is a good sign for a “soft” run...you’re making some power for sure.

I think we’ve all had the flatbed experience at some point. Maybe my last run of the year will make you feel better...lol. 104 miles from home... I told AAA that I drove out to the track to see my friends race but my car wouldn’t move for some reason...

I snapped a half shaft and called GM roadside assistance.....they towed me home for free lol. I have a trailer now and have needed it, I cheaped out and bought a manual winch instead of the electric. I would recommend spending the dough for the powered unit.

I forget the exact weights but the QA1 was only like 2 lbs lighter than my stock SS shaft, I feel like the car reacts a good bit quicker, getting rid of the slop from the 2 piece. A lot of money for a dang driveshaft. But nothing is cheap for these cars. If I was planning on open headers / no exhaust I would go with the chrome moly shaft. 1 knick in it and the CF shaft =junk , but the exhaust protects it from debris flying up hitting it, another thing with the CF is if it does break, it should just splinter and collapse shouldn't have to worry about it banging the under carriage and setting off the air bags, also have heard a lot of the aluminum ones breaking, so choose wisely. FWIW I put 16 psi in my Mickeys and Send It. no problems so far.....lol . Trailer is on my list also, don't want the worry of getting home when it breaks and sooner or later it will.... looking forward to seeing your numbers on a good pass.

I've broken 2 axles, trans and diff on my C5, it hated Drag Radials. Diff on my Maggie G8 (did not have a trailer on this event) and cost me a bunch to get my car home from 200 miles so that will never happen again. Plus the Gforce on my SS at the LS Fest. However the trans and diff are still original with 12800 miles and 230 or more passes. On my 3 motor, dam I'm hard on stuff.

Things I need to know

What settings do I put the car at?
What PSI should I start the rear tires?
Front tires are 295/30/20, what tire pressure?
How long of burnout?

Anything else would be appreciated.
I suspect that your running Mickey Thompson drag radials in that size. I just made my first trip to the drags with that same tire. I was told by MT to do a big burnout to break them in, and after that, just a average burnout to clean up the tires and get a little heat. They suggested a very low, IMO, psi, but I've had issue with low pressures on other cars making the top end a little scary. I ran 28 psi and got 1.72 and 1.71 sixty foots consistently. Going to the track next weekend and am going to slowly lower the psi and see if I can get an even better sizxty foot. I'm also running my OEM tires and wheels in front at the normal 32 psi. I also ran with all the nannies on. My grandson ran the car with the nannies off and got consistent 1.72 sixty foots. I only made two runs and I got the 1.71.

The tires are ET street R. I had them at 22psi. Burnout for 6 seconds was a bit longer than I wanted but the line lock would not release. Would prefer about 3-4 seconds. Once I get everything fixed and sorted out I’m sticking with that psi unless the track dictates something else. First pass I felt no wiggle on the big end with that pressure and trap speed was on point. I’m pretty confident that the car will do a 140mph trap with good launch and everything holding together.

You'll get it lined out and back to the track. If you can trap at 140 you'll probably be in the really low 10's or high 9s. I ran 9.83@140 with my 2300 Maggie last spring before we went to the 2650. I did trap 149 one pass at the end of last year but most of the time 146 to 147 on almost every pass.

That’s crazy fast! I’d be pretty happy running low 10s. Drop the mic happy running 9.9
