I'd imagine that the department are compensated by Live PD for the inconvenience of having a camera crew getting in their way at least twice a week - I suspect the funds, at least for the most part, came from this. I've searched for such evidence, and haven't been able to find anything, but I'd find it hard to believe that there isn't significant A&E money in there.
CAT are mostly about public awareness and image from my understanding - attending events where the department wants to show a positive police presence, rallying the community, etc. Kids love fast cars, and I'd guess that GM offered a better deal over Ford or Chrysler, so Camaro was the winner. As an SC resident I think it's pretty cool, and I look forward to seeing them out and about. The police in this state are paid a pretty poor salary considering they risk their lives every day, so it's nice they get to have nice things every once-in-a-while. The cars are all 1SS models with law enforcement upgrades, to the best of my knowledge. I hope that I get to speak with an officer and compare rides at some point. |

Maybe they bought them the same way the Dunbar, WV police bought this.

Right now it's only allowed in the traffic stealth cars, but patrol is required to have a roof mounted light bar. Believe you me, I would totally do the interior lights if they let us.

Cute - I'm glad I'm not a taxpayer in this district because this is a silly waste of taxpayers' dollars.

Push bumpers are almost gone...NOTHING to mount to anymore.
I assume they remove the passenger seat to make ROOM for radios, computer, etc. Looking back on all the stuff I carried as a rural Trooper...one could never fit it all in a gen 6 Camaro. |

For anybody interested, they're black mosaic metallic (at least, the paint appeared to match my 2016 2SS, so I presume that's the paint), non NPP exhaust, running what appeared to be stock Camaro SS tyres on stock 20" rims. The Richland County Sheriffs Deputy I spoke to wasn't 100% certain of modifications, but assumed the standard ballistic door plates, etc. He wasn't the driver and didn't have a key to open it up for me, but spoke briefly to me about the two Camaros he had in the 80s. Nice guy! I think he was one of the Live PD guys, but I don't watch the show enough to be sure. The female Deputy present also seemed familiar. The CAT symbol looks a lot like the Thundercats symbol but without the ring. Pretty cool! Definitely publicity tools and working to great effect judging by how many people were taking photos posing with the car, but also equipped for field use when not on show. |

Was just watching last night Live PD 11.17.17 and Richland County was whipping WOT those Camaro's in some high speed chase around the last 5 minutes of the show. Thinking tonight's episode will continue that chase as time ran out.
