Different fluid change cost?
What's everybody paying for the differential fluid change?

If you are handy at doing your own oil changes and maintenance changing the Diff fluid looks very easy. You can youtube it, I am going to buy a pump and do it myself. They say the Diff hold 1.5 quarts of fluid.

Do it yourself! It cost ~$30 in fluid and $7 for a fluid pump. Took me about 30 minutes.

It's 2 quarts and 30 mins labor, I don't do stuff myself. I was quoted $230 at the rob you blind Hendrick stealership about 15 mins from my house, I was quoted $103 plus tax at the small town dealer 45 mins away from my house. I chose to take my new car for a nice 45 min drive to get it done.

While I could do this myself, with the eLSD technology and such, and the cost of it, I will have my dealer do it just to be safe and have it on file.

It is pretty easy if you buy the pump, but the bad side is the fluid is not cheap if you use the GM spec fluid. It is $27 per quart and takes 2 quarts for the 1.4 quart capacity.

The eLSD is a separate system and you don't even touch it on the diff fluid change. It took me less than an hour to change my fluid out.

Its extremely easy and takes exactly 1.6 quarts. I even drove around a little after the first fill to see if it went down a bit. Nope! I opened the fill hole and the oil started weeping out. I put another squirt in for good measure and sealed it up. All in about 20 minutes, but I do have access to a lift.

The fluid change is no different than any other diff. Drain, fill, go drive a few figure 8's in a parking lot, then top off. Done! I'm willing to bet the dealer will barely drain all the fluid before filling it and sending you on your way! Take it from me, I was a tech while I was still going to school and you make your money by getting 30 min jobs done in 10-15 min. You get paid for 30 mins of labor regardless. That's why you often get shitty work done by dealers/shops. The whole flat rate system encourages cutting corners and finding short cuts. It in no way encourages doing the job thoroughly and carefully. As far as having records I buy all my stuff from Amazon so I have easy access to purchase receipts. My dealer would have to argue that I bought oil and fliter, diff fluid and whatever else and stored it in my garage just for the fun of it instead of servicing my car. I feel like I would have enough proof that I had serviced my car correctly to fend of any attempts to void my warranty.

I know, I was referring to the unit as a whole...I don't want any warranty issues if something gives me an issue with this new tech, so I can say "you guys changed the fluid at 1500 miles". Plus since I don't want the first two free oil changes (want to use better oil), they are doing the diff fluid swap for me for $50.
