2018 SS A8 Transmission (starting to hate this car)

I purchased a 2018 1SS in May with only 33 miles on it, drove nice until it hit 1000 miles and then it started to shudder. The shudder was minor at first but then slowly got so bad that when I was driving it to the dealer it was unbearable! They immediately replaced the torque converter, I picked it up and on the way home the check engine light came on (took it back, the next day, and they said they left something unplugged). The car doesn't drive as smooth as it did the when I first purchased it (my wife doesn't even like riding in it anymore), after the TC replacement, still feel a slight shudder. Well, today I think my transmission started slipping. When I downshift (with paddle shifters) it revs to about 4/5K and doesn't go anywhere, just revs like crazy until I let off. This is my 6th camaro and its a POS! Wish I would have kept my 2010 Camaro ... it would take a severe beating and be ready for another in the morning ... I cant even drive this one (1800 miles on it now). Also, when I'm in (P) Park and I rev it to 4k it lunges or jumps a bit, its really weird and disheartening. The car also makes some weird noise when starting it at first, others have complained that it sounds like a fan belt but its not. I'm sure I'm forgetting other things as well. I have a service appointment in the morning.

Take it back to the dealer & insist that they fix or replace it

Tell them they need to fix it or buy it back.

I had a new Subaru about 12 years ago that would randomly dump it's coolant and leave me stranded. After it happened 2x I told them I would not accept the car back unless they found the problem and fixed it. A tech spent hours driving it before it happened again, it was the $5 thermostat... without my insisting they had to fix it or buy it back a tech would not have spent hours driving the car.

Tell them you want it fixed.

I am sorry you are going through this. Do you have another dealer you can take it to? If so tell them what has occurred and see if they will replace the transmission. Sounds like you had the common shutter issue and the dealer screwed something up changing the TC.

On a side note I thought GM upgraded the TC after the 17 model year. This is really B.S. that we have to go through this on a $40K plus vehicle.

Tons of people are having the same issues ... GMs reply is that there is a "newly designed" torque converter ... which is BS (had mine replaced)!

Thank you. I might end up taking it to another dealership, there is another one not too far away, if they don't take care of me. Yeah, it it BS for sure.

It's BS but all cars have issues at all prices, especially performance cars.

Part of the reason I have a Camaro is issues with my Subaru STi. I didn't like the car enough to deal with it and got rid of it, but my $43k car was given back to me the 2nd time without a resolution to the problem.

I have zero faith in GM automatics. I went through two 6L80E in my last car. It has since been converted to a TR6060.

I hope you get your situation fixed. I understand the frustration.

I just purchased a 2018 Camaro SS with an A8 without knowing this was an issue. I should have checked these forums first. I have 180 miles on it, but I am concerned this will become an issue.

Is there anything that can be done in a preventative manner to head off any potential issues?

I bought a Range AFM Disabler in hopes of preventing these issues. I guess we’ll see...
