insert issue

that my be delamination-separation from the hot weather we have been having. all the early 2012 cars from back in the spring have not shown this.after driving your car you can see the heat rolling out these vents on the hood which is part of a superchargered engine,we are all still learning about these cars and still loving it.... but i sure gm will give you a new one with no problem.sorry your having this issue!!!!!!!

I agree, the second post with pictures it is pretty obvious from far away it is messed up. I am sure they will try and buff first and if it does not come out replace it.

Those with issues please specify model year? Is this all ECFs or just recent 2013s?

hmmm...maybe this is one thing they did right on the 2012's. I didn't have the dreaded PURPLE CF hood on MY '12 ZL1 #80 and no cracks (I did clear bra it within the 1st 1500 miles with XPEL ULTIMATE film).

that definitely sucks tho...hope you guys get it fixed ASAP

good to hear. I'm taking mine to dealer in the morning. They already booked me. I hope we can get some answers in the morning.

I'll keep you guys posted. I'm also awaiting a reply from Chevy Customer service and fbodfather on here. I will also be calling the Customer Service Line tomorrow morning since they're closed on Sundays.

But I'm going for a spin. It's too nice out.

Are you saying the Ashen Gray "Painted" inserts are not actually painted?

Could you please explain what you mean exactly in the quote above?

Looking at Jman's car you see the wiper is directly behind the mark. I believe someone left the wiper in the upward cleaning position and then opened the hood into it. Anyone else see what I mean?

I was lead to believe that the "colored" inserts weren't actually painted but were wrapped in a material to give that appearance hence the "matte" finish they have. It's impossible to have a matte finish with paint without leaving the bare paint exposed to the elements. If you take a matte paint and add clearcoat for protection it becomes glossy by nature of the clearcoat.

I could be wrong about the insert. I don't know for sure. If I am wrong, then let me know.

I don't think so. I haven't used my wipers at all and after getting back from my drive and wiping the car down, I noticed that I also have marks along the back side of the insert in the same place as JMANs just not as bad. Mine also repeats on the right side.

And theres one in the middle that wouldn't touch anything.

I really think these are just factory defects there's no other way for me to explain it.

I looked at my exposed hood, and found some marks aloing the front edge and some other area's. I took a magnifing glass out and got a better look at it. They appear at least the marks I have as a thin film almost like wax
on the surface for mine and not cracks. I just tried lightly in one are with my fingernail and it was coming off without leaving any marks at all. Almost like dried wax in appearance but alot more difficult to get off, but
it can be removed at least what I have on mine.
On a side note have you clay bared your ZL1 yet, I heard conflicting reports on wether you can do it as soon as you get it you need to wait till the paint has cured for like 3 months. Any thoughts on that?

Haven't done any paint protection/detailing other than the wash and the Zyno or whatever that protection is called that the dealer puts on that they threw in for me for free since I was a good/easy customer.

I didn't want to try scratching it with my finger nails but I guess I can give it a shot.
