Correct, the sub strap goes between the seat cushion & the backrest where they're split and you basically sit on the sub strap. Although this is not a perfect solution like a race seat, it is the only option to retain the factory seats, all air-bag functions, and safer than without. Good luck if you go this route!

Got it. Thanks for the response.

I'm very curious to the safety of a bolt in cage like this in an accident. those are some tiny looking bolts. I have also gotten mixed reviews on bolt in cages...m

There is a pretty common misconception that bolt in cages are not safe. A properly designed bolt in cage can be as safe as a weld in cage.

Some of the most important design factors that must be considered in a bolt in cage vs weld in cage are:

1) Hardware Grade
2) Base Plate / Backing Plate Design

Please see the excerpt below from SCCA rulebook regarding bolt in cage fabrication:

https://flic.kr/p/2dVpPn3

In the case of our cages, we go above the minimum required bolt grade, and employ the use of Grade 8 hardware for all of our mounting locations. For base plate design, we ensure that we meet the thickness and size requirements in the rulebook, as well as incorporate the use of oversized backing plates for each mounting location to help further disperse load in the event of a rollover.

DLCT3, If you don't mind me asking (and I hope I didn't miss it somewhere), what was your out-the-door cost?

Everyone's pricing will be somewhat different based on freight charges, and optional upgrades. I'll shoot you a PM.

Hey Tim. As VIRBound mentioned the cage & shipping will vary depending on how you package it out for powder coating, removable stays, shipping distance, etc.

However, I think my total cost minus the Hans was probably around $4200ish. I took advantage of some black Friday sales so that helped, but really overall for everything it includes its a cheap mod for the safety aspect & extra protection. Heck a set of quality wheels and tires cost more than that!!

A nice setup. Exactly what I've been thinking form my zl1 1le. You mentioned this is a custom job by G. Therapy. Did you have to supply measurements, preferred attachment locations / methods, etc? Or are they already jigged up to get just the right fit specifically for the 2018 ZL1 1LE? I talked to bkauto a while back and discovered there is a 4" difference in the 'between-the-seatbelt' mounts in the rear when compared to other Camaro models. Makes me wonder about other dimensional differences one might discover.

Are you going to leave it as bolt-in or maybe weld it in later?

Do you have phone no. for the guys at Garage Therapy?

I'll shoot you a message with my contact info.

We built this roll bar in our own personal zl1 1le's and then jigged it up for production. We have sold the bar to a customer with an SS, and it was the exact same dimensionally, so we did not note any measurement differences between the SS and the ZL1 1LE.

Even though this is jigged for production, we can customize it to suit your needs.

If you send your car to us, we can do a weld in install, if it is preferred for your application. However, the bolt-in solution we offer does meet the SCCA requirements and can be used for track days.

The way mine bolts in with the backing plates on the outside makes it part of the car. I'm not saying it will take a 180 crash but I believe I have a better chance at 140 plus then I do without. So I feel much better having it. Rpm is NHRA approved on their Chromoly 6 pt. down to 9.99. If I go quicker then that its on me. The backing plate really tie it all together so I'm fine with what I put in my car.

I agree. The RPM or the Garage Therapy cage like I have is much safer than no cage all. An engineered cage with backing plates, correct tie in points, diagonal bars coupled with 6 point harnesses, Hans device, & a bar over my head sure makes me feel a whole to safer than without. I'm not into drag racing with my car so I didn't need that certification. However, it is built to NASA/SCCA design requirements. So for road course racing I wanted peace of mind to protect my spine!
