Anyone had a cat fail due to oil?
Maybe the ESP is just a marketing ploy? |

You know, I fell into the hype of everyone when the 0w40 esp first came out. But after my oil pump replacement... Seriously thinking of going "back" to Royal purple 5w30 when I hit my next oil change at 23k. I ran royal purple 5w30 in my 5 gen SS 1LE and loved it. Never had a bad experience with RP...
When I say "back", I don't mean I have ever put RP in my ZL1. I have not. I have been using Mobil 1 since I got it. The dealer did the 600 mile oil change (was a nightmare with oil leaking from a too loose filter), I put 5w30 mobil 1 in at my 2nd oil change at 2000. Then, went to the 0w40 mobil 1 after that.

If you get a UOA you will see real world viscosity differences between 5W-30 and "0"W-40 (the "zero" is more of a marketing gimmick) are minor
Side note - RP never fared that well in standardized tests or UOAs and I followed it for years on multiple forums, including the S2000 forum (those guys were very particular on oil). Amsoil and Castrol Edge are better products. RP oil filters are great, though |

Anyone used the Royal Purple High Performance Street (HPS) line of oils in their ZL1?
