Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis

I've used Blackstone Labs for years and it really helps all the way around from Engine Health to diagnosing internal engine issues and Oil Performance.

Anyone here use them with their Gen 6?

No but I'll be changing it this weekend after the Fest miles and my Blackstone bottle is ready to go.

I used them to show that changing your oil at 1500 miles is a good idea.

I have used them to analyze my engine oil on my waste vegetable oil fueled Ford F250 diesel. I watch for veggie oil slipping past the rings and contaminating the engine oil.

I ran a Blackstone UOA after swapping out the factory fill. There were enough break-in metals at 941 miles to warrant the oil change. I've also been using Blackstone for years.

Thread Zombie. I just did a Blackstone at 10664 miles and this is what they had to say. " You've got a nicely wearing LT-1 under the hood of this Camaro SS. Universal averages show
typical wear for this model after ~3,500 miles of oil use. Steel parts like the crank/cams will reflect use
closely, so 15 ppm of iron tells us you aren't working the engine too hard. On the whole, your metals are in
fantastic shape next to the averages, so we don't see any signs of poor wear in this initial review. The
viscosity is in spec for the 5W/30 and no harmful contamination showed up. Air and oil filters are working
well too (low silicon, insolubles). It's all good news here!". Its hard to get a hot oil sample. LOL

Blackstone labs report from a recent oil change (3200 miles on oil, 2nd change):
"Thanks for the notes, This sample looks good, so your sampling technique was fine. As to Super Tech versus Mobil 1, we don't really have an opinion one way or the other. Both will work just fine for GM's LT-4 engine, so if you like saving a bit of money, stick with Super Tech. Wear metals are already consistent with averages (which show typical wear after ~2,600 miles), and that's impressive. Typically we still find lingering break-in material in young engines like this, but this 6.2L is already shaping up nicely for you. Your Camaro is off to a great start!"

Sampling technique: I ran the car well in the morning. Let cool for a few hours, then started the car to move the car over in the garage to get onto the jacks take the sample. I have a stahlbus valve so the sample was easy to take. Although next time I'll let it drain a bit more so I get closer to the middle.

My current fill is Valvoline 5w30 dexos "for engines newer than 2012" so we will see how it did in a few thousand miles.

I have been using Blackstone for about 10 years now on all my cars.

FYI - they will also analyze diff and transmission fluid.

By selling it?
I am interested in this, just got a 19 SS and I am wondering if the whole “change your break in oil” at 1500 miles is still a requirement

3rd oil change @ 6675 miles with 3453mi on this Valvoline 5w30 Dexos. The Mistress is a weekend/show car.

I've moved up to Mobil1 0w40 ESP Formula this time. So we shall see how it holds up in 10ish months. The new oil fill cap should be here in a week.

Looks great. I am big believer in Mobil 1 0W-40. Interested to see your next results.

4th oil change @ 8295 miles with 1620mi on Mobil1 0w40 ESP Formula. Spring and summer saw little driving, mostly due to COVID cancelling most car shows and me sadly skipping the Camaro Club meets for the same reason. Summer seemed unusually wet here on the weekends and I didn't get out for many morning drives. But winter here is the best driving season

Sticking with Mobil1 0w40 ESP Formula for now.
