Current up to date trans fix???? (a8)
Hi everybody, new to the group. Have a 2016 RS 2LT still under powertrain warranty and I am taking it to dealer Monday to address the shudder or rumble strip feeling and the sloppy trans shifts and slight rpm surge at driving speed. I’ve seen several forums on this but just wondered if there’s any new updates for the fix aside from the triple trans flush and the torque converter? Thanks appreciate it

Thank you. I will be bringing it with me since the service guy at the dealership said they would still have to diagnose it and possibly charge me the diagnosis fee?! Ugh

One other question since My car has 40,000 on it should I just make them swap the torque converter as well in case the extra miles driven with the shudder could have damaged it? What are my chances of them listening to me and fixing both the fluid and the torque converter? Thanks

The latest TSB does not require any sort of diagnostics. I took mine in and I never experienced the shudder. As far as your TQ goes, have them take a look at it. Wouldn’t hurt to check

Thanks super helpful group right here!!! I was also looking to put m017 20x10 and20x11 wheels on my car after the repairs and just wondered if that would be smart considering all the trans issues? Or should I wait till after 60,000 miles warranty expired to put the new wheels on? Not sure if they will try to charge me for any repairs if I have different wheels on the car.

GM won't let them do a TC replacement under warranty until they have flushed/filled per the TSB and it has failed to fix the issue. My experience with the A8 in my Colorado was just that. I had the flush/fill and the shudder came back, GM then told them to replace my TC. Been good ever since.

Then I’ll just pay for it. Not gonna wait for it to happen again. Rather be done with it on the first go around

I would already find another dealer after you mentioned the trans shudder and they came back with you possibly paying for the repair. Every good GM dealer knows about the shudder and the procedures to repair it

They didn’t say I had to pay but I don’t want to wait after the flush to come back when it returns for the torque converter. They should do both right out the gate. Old fluid means it damaged the torque converter already so why not just fix both in the first place. I have issues between v4- and v6 so I’m pretty sure the TCC solenoid is damaged. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. GM really dropped the ball on this one. Wish I could just get the A10 Installed on my 2016 hahaha!! Pretty sure they wont go for that. I’ll post updates.

Do the latest TSB and see what happens. The latest TSB has been working pretty well it seems thus far. (keyword...thus far...lots of people have put thousands of miles on since the latest TSB with zero issues. Doesn't mean the problem won't come back years down the road) If the shudder comes back before your powertrain warranty is gone, then you get a free TC replacement. If it goes out after the warranty, pay for it then. Or maybe the TSB will fix it.

Yea it’s more about just fixing both the things that cause it in the first place. I would pay because most of what I have seen including the GM tech I talked to(not the dealer I’m dealing with) said that it most likely won’t be fixed unless the do the torque converter too. Just makes sense to me after all this crap with that trans that they should at least do everything they can to make it right. Maybe I’m crazy. So many people not only
On here but everywhere said they had the Flush and still had it come back until the TC was replaced. I do t like to leave anything to chance especially as close as I am to the warranty being up. |
