Transmission flush/change cost

My dealer is charging me 450$, which seems a bit expensive, in Dallas Texas. (Automatic)

I've seen as high as $600 for the new fluid and flush procedure.

The flush & fill, as required by TSB #18-NA-355, requires between 20 and 22 qts of transmission fluid at approximately $15 a qt (blue label Mobil1). That's about $300 in trans fluid alone. Add 2-4 hours of labor (depending on who you ask) and it adds up quick.

are you still under the drivetrain warranty? 5 year 60,000 miles they should be doing it for free.

The dealership isn't paying anywhere near $15.00 a quart for that fluid. They buying the stuff in 55 gallon drums for half that cost easy. That doesn't mean to quote me on those numbers...I am just saying they buy it in bulk, so I doubt they pay anything close to MSRP on the fluid.

I have read some only paying $350.00 for the fluid flush out of pocket.

Just because the dealership is paying less doesn't mean the customer is being charged less. If that were true we would probably only be charged $25 for an oil change.

According to NADA, 49.6% of dealership gross profit comes from Service & Parts. New vehicle sales is approximately 26% of gross profits. Used car sales and F&I make up the rest.

The $15 a qt I quoted in my earlier post was really just a guess. The point I was trying to make is there's a relatively high materials cost associated with the procedure. Therefore, the amount the OP was being charged is not unrealistic, albeit maybe not the best price available somewhere.

No expertise implied or expressed.

I'm still under warranty I'm at 51k miles, I actually don't have the shudder issue though so I don't know if they'll change it for free

Most dealers will charge you for the fluid flush but only drop the transmission pan and put in the 7.4 quart service fill instead of replacing all of the fluid. Therefore, I would just pay for the pan drop service and save yourself $200. If you have the ability to jack the car up safely, you can do this yourself for around $80. You'll need a fluid pump to refill the transmission since there isn't a fill tube; I used a hand pump garden sprayer to refill mine.

Just tell them you have the shudder and get it done for free..go over a few posts on what the shudder sounds and feels like so you can explain your "situation"to them..according to the tsb there is no need for them to replicate the problem. You may not have it now but it will come.
