Been FOREVER!...
Hello!
almost 3 years now with my 2nd SS (2014 auto 2SS RS, black/black).. and its nearing that time. Getting my 6th gen soon. Drove the Auto 8 Speed... wow. holy smokes in all regards. But I must say... (Even though its been ages, eons)... i think im going for the M6. Any and all input from newbies to manual maniacs is appreciated. It's nothing brain-surgery worthy, but i guess I'm just more anxious about getting used to using my other foot and driving in the crappy stop in go traffic 75% of the time around here. Otherwise Im pysched! V

I had an automatic C7 and liked it a lot. For some reason I never even considered the A8 on this car. Glad I didn't. The ergo's, shift action, driveability, rev match etc. Makes this car a real pleasure to drive as an M6. It's as close to perfect a manual set-up as you'll find (and I've had 69 cars). Go for the manual, save some bucks, and enjoy the drive..

The ONE thing I had to get used to was the feedback from the gas pedal is very much different from that of linkage. For instance how the car moves between first and second is sometimes feels controlled more by the computer than by me...I don't know if I'm explaining it right, but you can feel the intermediary when driving the new manual as opposed to old. I prefer the older style like in the 96 C4 but I wouldn't trade the Gen 5 manual for an auto either. I agree with Modshack. Go with it and enjoy the drive.

That being said the other 90% of time the manual is way more fun. Can't wait to get my new SS on a mountain road.

Just got mine 2 days ago. First manual car that I have driven (if you don't include about 5 minutes in a Civic). I've stalled out several times but am slowly getting used to it now. Didn't stall once on my 80 minute commute home today (all back roads w/ stop lights). It is a little stressful for me in traffic right now. I feel that the auto would get rid of the initial stress that I am feeling but I think that I will get used to the stick quickly and end up being glad that I got it.

As stated above, the ergonomics of the M6 shifter cant be beat. It just feels so good.

Look up Lethalhammer on Youtube, allot of great stuff concerning his 16 SS as far as upgrades and improvements.
I've got the 2SS manual and couldn't be happier, one of the smoothest clutches and shifting actions I've felt in a long time. Far better than my 14 Mustang GT. |

I know exactly how you feel brother, your experience sounds similar too mine about 6 years back. Once I got used too it and it became second nature there's no going back too an automatic. You will fall in love with it. |

Very glad to hear all the detailed positive comments on the M6. I've owned stickshift cars exclusively for my entire driving life (nearly 30 years), and I know that there is a very wide range of "goodness" in manual setups. I personally can't stand automatics, even with manual gear selection methods. It's nowhere near the same driving experience. Stop and go traffic, hills, etc. don't bother me one bit. Nothing like the direct connection to the car that you get from driving a stick.

No stalling today! Getting smoother with it for sure. The passing power of this car is amazing! I noticed that I feel like I am going much slower than I actually am so I have to be aware of that.
