Based on GM’s recent Corvette reveals, they will probably show it off in France or some place really random.

well, this might be the most anticipated reveal since oh...1953? maybe they do a non-auto show in Detroit later this year.

Completely unconfirmed speculation.

if the hybrid bit turns out to be true that will be awesome... but the 1,000 horsepower figure seems a little high

i got the new issue of motor trend in the mail yesterday and it left me confused. it basically claimed it will have the same engines as the Stingray, but that car will continue production as well.

Whats so confusing about that? Continuing the normal Corvette makes way more sense than replacing it with a mid engined car. Besides, they didn't double the size of Bowling Green just for a paint shop.

Added weight would be a disappointment but 500 hp from a 6.2 LTx seems reasonable.

A 5.5 flat plane crank doesn't make sense, especially making 600+ hp. The Voodoo vibrated itself to pieces at 5.2 liters, let alone 5.5 liters.

my question is the engines. if they're the same horsepower i don't get the point of both existing. If they're higher output then i do, but i mean the Stingray already has up to 700HP. Usually in sports car lines, Porsche, Ferrari, etc. each model as you go up the price range has it's own engine variants.

Not sure where you got the "up to 700hp" figure for the Stingray, but it's not correct.
HP/TQ for each model is: Stingray & Grand Sport 460/465, Z06 650/650 ZR1 755/715.

Rumours are always a telephone game. People often assume the juiciest take of what they heard, and then pass that on instead of what was actually meant.

If there is any truth to the engine claim I'd say its partial at best. Meaning, I do not expect that the mid engined car will get exactly 3 engines, the same three that are in the C7. I could see 2 engines, a 'base' model with the LT4 (or LT1 or even the LT5) and a 'halo' with ... something else. So, in a very literal sense it would share 'engines' with the C7 -as they would presumably assemble more than 1 car with that shared engine. That sounds way more plausible than either exclusively borrowing from its sibling or being 100% completely unique.

And I wouldn't use Ferrari as much of a guide for Corvette. GM has much more interest in using the Corvette to embarrass Ferrari at a substantially lower price than in cloning their business model. Creating unique engines just to have unique engines is expensive. And if they're not better than what already exists, its rather pointless too. The people that would scoff at sharing engines with 'lesser' cars are the same ones that would scoff at buying a Corvette in the first place, so they're unlikely to lose too many sales.
