Warranty

Hi All,

I live in Dubai and have a 2017 Camaro SS. It was not purchased from the main dealer as it was an import from a private dealer./company. When purchased it came with a 3year/100,000km warranty from a local 3rd party warranty company.

It is now in the workshop with the dreaded transmission shudder and is having the flush and new transmission oil work done. Although the cost is being covered by the 3rd party warranty company, is it legal that the main Chevy dealer refuses to cover any warranty on imported vehicles? I thought the Chevy warranty was supposed to be valid worldwide!

They did however do some recall work when the car had its 10,000km service.

I would like to escalate this to Chevy NA and see what they have to say on this.

Any advice or contacts would be appreciated.

Incidentally by importing directly I saved around $12,000 US over the main dealer price. A 2SS Camaro will run you around $57,000 US here in Dubai from the main dealer....................

TIA

Stewart

The simple answer to that is no. Example, some years back a dealer in mid-western Canada had problems getting Chevy trucks. He bought some from a dealer in the US, being US vehicles there was no GM warranty Canada and the Canadain dealer provider an a/m warranty.

Your case sounds the same.

Sadly I think you may have discovered why you saved $12,000. Good luck and be glad you have the 3rd party warranty.

Thanks for the replies. The transmission flush was carried out under the 3rd party warranty at the main Chevy dealer and all seems to be resolved for the moment..........
Other than this the car has been perfect to date, let's hope that continues.

Regards,

Stewart

As much as I hate the dealer, I would cringe at the thought of not having a warranty on this car.

No car company will cover any vehicle they sell outside of the country it's initially sold to under warranty.

You will not get warranty coverage even on a Canadian car in the US or vice versa.

Each country has their own warranty stipulations, safety and emission regulations, etc. Even if your car is the exact same car (as are most US - spec/Canadian - spec), your warranty is void outside of the country of origin.

That's not just for cars. Pretty much anything/everything.

You won't get iPhone service under warranty at an Apple store in Dubai on a phone initially sold in the USA either.

As stated previously, the car does have warranty from a 3rd party company here in Dubai. They approved the flushing without any problem. According to the main dealer they (Gulf Warranties) are the best of the bunch of available 3rd party warranties.

Oh yes third parties are fine, but I’m just letting you know you won’t get any support directly from General Motors, and any repairs a GM Dubai dealer performs they will charge the standard out of warranty cash rate parts and labor to your third party.

I had mine done and immediately put a 2000 mile trip on it. It's been fine since
