Sending all our thoughts and prayers to you guys going through all this. God Bless you.

And yes, you can run 87 just fine. The computers will adjust for it but if you drive the car normal I doubt you'd even notice any performance difference.

Octane boosters aren't a guaranteed thing and none of them make guaranteed promises. Nor will they guarantee their product won't cause long term damage.

Don't trust anything not authorized by General Motors.

I'm in central Texas so we had some strong winds and rain, but NOTHING like the devastation along the coast. Many people lost everything. We r blessed here that we did not experience that. Thank u for ur thoughts and prayers for those affected. Glad I can run the 87 without worry.

Weird...our gas issue started last week & I'm carrying around 10 extra gals for my company truck. I burn 35-40gals a day & cannot get in a situation to not get home.

Still, I had no problem finding 93 for the toy...all the 87 was gone over the weekend??

I'm the guy who drove 20 000km or 12000 miles on 87 octane with no issues. The car will drop your HP by a few but there will be no issues.

The only octane booster worth buying is Torco...it's safe for o2 sensors and can turn 93 octane into true 107 octane race fuel. So you could bump 87 up to 93 octane easily but its not cheap. 25.00 for a 32 oz can.

the computer can not pull enough timing to run 87 in it at full throttle. You will be fine to drive it like a prius. Just go back to 93 when they have it and stay out of the throttle. don't put snake oil additive in it.

I should have bought a ZL1

I do not believe this to be true. I worked in the car rental industry for years and we only used 87 octane fuel in every car, no exceptions. Rental customers also do not buy premium fuel, and they drive those cars like they are stolen. 87 octane will do nothing to the car......unless there is some aftermarket tune on the vehicle that requires a high octane fuel.

You can add toluene to raise octane. I make my own race gas. I buy toluene at the paint store in 5 gallon containers. You can add a max of 10% toluene. Toluene is 114 octane so do the math. Recipes can be found online.

GM even says a knocking may be heard. That is preignition and is doing damage to the pistons. It may take years for it to bore through a piston if you're not full throttle all the time. Every time you hear a knock its because the car can not pull enough timing and each knock is taking a small chip out of the piston.

from the manual
For the LTG 2.0L L4 turbo or the
LT1 6.2L V8 engines, premium
unleaded gasoline meeting ASTM
specification D4814 with a posted
octane rating of 93 is highly
recommended for best performance
and fuel economy. Unleaded
gasoline with an octane rated as low
as 87 can be used. Using unleaded
gasoline rated below 93 octane,
however, will lead to reduced
acceleration and fuel economy.
If knocking occurs, use a gasoline
rated at 93 octane as soon as
possible, otherwise, the engine
could be damaged. If heavy
knocking is heard when using
gasoline with a 93 octane rating, the
engine needs service.

I'm not sure I buy the comment of "every knock is taking a small chip out of the piston". Pre-detonation is the knock, it's a shock wave the mechanicals have to deal with, but not actually removing metal from a piston.

Unless you are running 11:1 compression or more than you can safely use regular gas. GM released a statement back in 2003 or 2004 about this. I just wouldn't run it hard and like others have said you will lose a few hp but that's about it. There is no need for an octane booster either.
