Radar Detector
Hey guys. I run my radar detector on the very bottom of my windshield. it seems to work well there, but there's sometimes it takes to the very last minute to pick something up. Is it to low? Thinking about going wireless as well. Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

I have mine up top beside the rear view mirror. I got an extension with a separate mute button like this http://www.amazon.com/Escort-79-0000...+detector+cord.
I have the mute button on my dash by the a-pillar, and ran the wire to the detector behind the plastic on the a-pillar and wedged into the head liner so it's all out of the way. No wires seen, and it's up top for good detection. |

I heard if it is to high that it can be affected by the slope of the windshield. And I also have 5% tint across my windshield at the top

I keep mine just below the mirror, it has 360 detection and in that lacation it has good access to the back and side glass. picks up atleast 2 miles away.
Update, using escort here also. Very effective unit. Last edited by CAM....ZL1; 01-22-2015 at 05:52 PM. |

What matters more than where it is mounted is what kind it is... You get what you pay for and that rings HEAVILY true when it comes to radar detectors.

Get a Valentine or Escort Redline. They will pay for themselves and then some. I guarantee it. |

^^^ This.. My Valentine 1 has paid for itself 10 fold. I have it mounted up by the rearview mirror which is where the valentine1 manual recommends. Only problem with this is that I find people tailing me sometimes bc they can see it through my rear window and react when it goes off.

The radar needs to be as high as possible but not obstructed by the tint. That gives you the best range. I have the V1 on the left of the mirror on one car and the Escort Max on the right of the mirror on the other car.
As high as possible for max coverage.

Straight from V1:
Valentine One radar detectors work best when mounted high in the windshield, and toward the center between the windshield pillars. http://www.valentine1.com/V1Info/rad...ormounting.asp

Escort answer:
https://www.escortradar.com/faq.php Where should I mount my detector? The rule of thumb for RADAR is the higher the better, but for LASER the lower the better. Laser is more difficult to detect than radar. Therefore it is recommended to mount the detector lower on the windshield of most vehicles. With that said, as far as positioning, you want to give the detector a clear view of the road both front and rear. Avoid placing behind the tinting at the top of most windows, behind parking stickers, wiper blades, or anything similar that will obstruct the detector's window or lens.
