FWIW, two months ago at work we replaced a set of rear Bridgestone RE-070 tires on a Lexus LFA, they were ordered from Tire Rack one week before, and they both had 2011 date codes. Tires looked, smelled, and felt “brand new”. I have zero issue with buying 16 of these GYSC3s. They know how to store tires correctly.

That's fine...particularly for dd on side roads. The mantra of 5 years still holds true for high speed driving, let alone at 100, or 150 mph. I would not trust a stepchild's life at 150 mph, or even 100 mph, on 5 year old rubber, let alone 8 year old rubber.

Why, you may ask? Time still degrades rubber...not only atmospheric conditions. This is especially true in high speed, softer compound tires: W, Y or Z.

Not sure that is factual in regards to obsolescence...pretty sure gy is producing them currently as I’ve hadn’t heard of other rubber / change for the Z?? TR is also showing them available at full price. I suspect they simply wanted to turn the old inventory & not completely discontinued. Only other reason they would tell you that is if the discounted ones were an older revision...that jives with being discontinued anyway.

Def not asking...

Having changed thousands and thousands of tires over a 22 year career, including my time servicing and driving HSR race cars at Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, I have no reason to doubt Tire Rack is not passing off sub-standard aged-out tires. In case you’re unaware... the LFA is no slouch and Bridgestone has never viewed it as a daily driver. I would trust step-child / wife / whoever on the tires we installed. Difference of opinion, I get it...

How tires were stored is 90+% of condition a few years on, in my opinion.

Isn't this how Paul Walker died? Why mess with it?

Ordered Friday, got my tires this morning. $720 to my doorstep.

My oldest tire date is 46/16... So just a little over 2 years, 8 months. I'm happy with that!

My other tires are 51/16 and 08/17

What a great deal. Thanks for posting.

What a great deal indeed. I just received my tires. The rears are both dated week 51 of 2016 and the fronts are sated week 50 of 2016. I could not be happier with this deal. Plus a two year road warranted for free!

my set arrived today 51/16 for fronts and 50/16 for rears current tires on car is 14/17 and 19/17 and they sat outside a year (including winter) on the car lot before I purchased (got a great deal), so at minimum better than what I have on the car as fronts are cupping. Tires still got that new smell!

I don't think there was ever a definitive conclusion on what happened. For awhile his family was going after Porsche for some fault in the car.

Could have been the car, tires, driver error, something slick on the road, a medical condition, who knows

I'm guessing it was flawed car + irresponsible street driving = horrible death.

From what was released:

"As many as 200 of the 1,200 Carrera GTs produced had been totaled in the first two years it was sold (2004-2006); The available Porsche Stability Management was not installed in the Carrera GTs (which IIHS says prevents 1/3 of fatal crashes and reduces rollover risk by 80%)."

Another claim in the suits (besides the missing safety system) was a defective seat belt which trapped Walker (who was alive for 1 minute 20 seconds, unable to release the belt, and subsequently was engulfed in flames).

Porsche settled with Paul Walker's estate for a undisclosed amount in 2017.

I checked this morning and they had more in stock. I decided to take the plunge. Mine are cupping, due to track use, so they are noisier than normal and it is close to time.

The driver was a professional race car driver... They don't use stability control.
