you can pretty much assume that LED bar on the bottom is a DRL...just going off of current models...

Yea not sure what he meant to type. 5th Gen uses H13(9008) for non-RS cars. 5006 is an ancient sealed beam bulb.

Ok let me try and say this the right way, i do believe that we have a projector head light, but not with a HID bulb, think its a like the new GMC Sierra headlight, where they use a bulb like this 9012 bulb, (See pic) we have the GMC headlight here and see a lot of similarities with the 6th gen camaro headlight IMO.

P.S. i dont have any inside info From GM or any one, its all from looking at things that we have here.

Do you think they just put a halogen bulb in it just to test since it's much cheaper?

As far is it being the RS headlight or not...the 6th gen could have just done away with separate assemblies. There are several cars out there using halogens and projectors now. Maybe the RS upgrade will just see HID setup instead of halogen.

A lot of new cars use projector housings with non-HID bulbs.

No i dont, there is no room on the outside for a ballast, and i know there is what looks like a ballast on the outside, but its not a ballast, it is a LED controller same as the GMC truck, i was using the RS headlight from the Gen5, i dont know what they may or may not call the Headlight in the 6th gen, time will tell use that, I hope you are right but dont think there going to spend that much for tooling, and all the new cars and trucks have the same look for headlights.

A lot of cars that use halogen bulbs in projectors, really suck, I know first hand. Once you have had hid, maybe you are spoiled. My 2010 had hid and my 2013 came with halogen and they used long life bulbs. About as bright as an old halogen flashlight. Very dim and brown in color. Lucky they used H7 both high and low beam and could be replaced with H7 rallye bulbs, H9 on H7 base.

Wait are you saying you don't think the 6th gen will have HIDs or just these headlights might be the standard ones? Clearly tooling for two different assemblies isn't an issue, they've been doing for the 5th gen.

But on most new cars GM has gone away from HID so i do not believe the 6th gen will have them, i hope i am wrong but will see soon.

I'd be pretty surprised not to see HID as an option, even if the headlamp housings are the same whether or not you get HID.

That said...I agree with you that lots of new GM vehicles use the projector style, non-HID lamps. What is the advantage (assuming there is any?) of this over a regular style halogen style lamp without a projector lens?

I'm assuming with the projector lens, you can just swap the bulb for an HID and be OK...or not?

Sorry if this was explained earlier and I missed it!

In my experience halogens in projectors will still give you a good cutoff for the light beam, but you still have poor performance to due the halogen. It does make putting HIDs in there much more effective and safer. I think I have heard there are still differences in the projector itself (halogen vs HID), maybe someone else can confirm that.

As far as the 6th gen not having HID option, I highly doubt that. The full size pickups, Corvette, Buicks, Cadillacs, and GMCs all get them as options. Can you think of a car/truck that GM gave an option for HIDs that doesn't have them now? The damn Corolla has HIDs now standard lol.

Hell the corolla has LED headlights standard across the whole model range. What I havent quite figured out, is of toyota can do that on its base model run of the mill communter car, why havent more manufactures done it? I'd love to see LED headlight on the camaro. I know it wont happen, but id still love to see it!

Super Sound the new pickups do not have HID they have a project with halogens bulbs in them, i know I have many sets of headlights from them here, the pic I posted of the new 9012 bulb came out of the new GMC pickup headlight with the LED DRL.
