Okay to run Z/28 Diff without Cooler?

I'm in the middle of putting in a Z/28 rear diff and am wondering if it's okay to run it with the cooler lines capped off?

Depends on how hard you drive it I think since the car is setup to be a track car. You can buy the cooler kit for a SS so not 100% sure it's required for a DD non track car.

I might add the cooler in the future. I don't do any serious track time, mostly just autocross so I'm not worried about heat so much. Just wanting to make sure running with the fittings capped won't hurt anything.

No prob running without it. It is nice to have if you track the crap out of the car.

Isn't the Z/28 helical?

IIRC... it's an SS housing with the Torsen carrier (similar to the Eaton Truetrac) and a cover mounted cooler. It also has 3.91 gears like the 1LE.

It is a Torsen. Externally the case looks the same as my SS. The cover has inlet and outlet fittings to connect to an external cooler.

I've decided no problem running with the fittings capped. The lines carry transmission oil through the heat exchanger in the diff cover. No diff oil leaves the diff.

My understanding is that it's the same as the SS 1LE. housing just a Torsen carrier. The cover has a built in cooler.

This is why I'm going to do an Eaton Truetrac with Billet caps and a LPW cover. If I need a cooler I'll figure something out later.
