Switchblade key fob

I still have my original keys that came with my car
I know there's a recall but my dealer said I could keep them if wanted to no big deal. Is anything to worry about?

Not so much worried as trying to get feedback on what others had done.

I still have all my switchblade keys for my 2010. The concern and recall was "your knee could accidentally turn the car off". I'm not 7' tall, and my knees are not anywhere close to the ignition switch. I think I'm good.

When the "recall" was completed on my 2014 Camaro they removed the two switch blade keys and cut new traditional keys. I went on eBay and purchased two new switch blades that came with the retaining pins. The dealer, out of kindness, cut the new blades for me free and I installed them. I now have both original FOBs along with the two new traditional keys. History report on this Camaro will show that the recall has been taken care of. Besides I am only 6'X5' and never once has the switchblade been a problem.

While we are on the topic. When I got my car, It came with 3 keys. The owner had the original FOB with detached keys, but the buttons were broke so he purchased a switchblade key fob from a dealer. Just because I like redundancy, was considering getting the second switchblade key done. Have seen them on ebay (uncut) cheep, and I understand the dealer will punch you in the mouth when purchased from them. So what I am asking, is are the ebay keys just a good to get and take to a lock smith or dealership to be cut, or should I suck it up and just go to the dealer to get my second switchblade?

I AM 7' tall and my knees don't bump the switch unless I'm trying to bump it and even then it takes quite a bit of effort to bump the key. Fact of the matter is, my airbag sensors will activate and deploy the airbags before my knee moves forward enough to bump the switch so I'm not concerned.

I've gotten several keys from Keyless2Go on Amazon. Ebay is a last resort for me. Two keys are <$30. Getting them cut is what costs. I can tell you the Amazon keys do not work as well as the factory, but that should not be a surprise. One I have, tries to separate, which makes the key want to come out. Another only unlocks the door if you within a foot of the door. The other two I have had work pretty much like factory.

FWIW, I still get emails and mail about the recall all the time. I still have an original factory switchblade keyfob for each Camaro and I try not to use them so I can have them around. I also have had people who know about the recall joke with me about still having the switchblade because they see it as being ridiculous as well.

as long as your knees don't hit the key area you're fine

if they do you can turn the car off which can lock steering, disable air bags, etc.

I have the originals I like the switchblade key. I am tall enough that my knee could hit the key, but I'll take my chances. It would really only ever happen in an accident, so what does it matter at that point.

My car came with the recall done already, I reversed it myself and couldn't be happier.

I never let the recall happen on my old 2013. Just threw out the notices everytime they came

I'm still throwing away the recall notices. Had to replace a switchblade. Just bought a switch key on the internet. Switched the original cut key onto it (just tap-out the roll pin). And did the process to program the new fob.

I'm 5'5'', and have tried hard to hit the ignition switch in my ZL1 but can't even get close. I have no concerns in that respect.
My problem unfortunately is that I've received, as some of us have already mentioned, multiple recall notices for the switchblade FOB. I'm a Canadian and now have moved to America. I want to bring my car here, currently being in storage in Toronto. In order to import it home, there cannot be any outstanding recall notices that apply to it. I want to keep my switchblade FOB, but I may have to give it up for that reason. Too bad for me.

It's very easy to reverse it after it's done. Just need to buy 2 roll-pins, break your new "key" apart, and put it back in the switch blade. They are just taking your key out of the switch and putting it into a plastic chunk and calling it a key
