Differential swap

How difficult is it to swap out the stock differential for a 1le unit? I want to make this my next mod but I'm not sure if I can do it myself. Thanks

If you have any mechanical ability and the tools, you can do it yourself over the weekend.

A shop can swap diff for diff in a few hours. Cost depends on hourly rate of each shop.

I've broken 3 so far, I have it down to about a 3-hour job to swap them out. It takes longer to get the car up in the air and the exhaust down than it does the rest of the swap.

Sounds like you need a zl1 rear if you have broken 3

I believe this guy. It's not a hard job. Basic hand tools and a set swinging between your legs and you are good to go. Just kidding, girls can do this job easy enough.

Finally found a 1le differential and I have a few questions
The part in struggling with is the axles do the slide out easily or do you need a pry bar. I don't want to replace the seals. Most of the videos I've seen use a lift and a transmission jack what kind of jack can I use to support the diff. Thanks

Stingray,

The axles with "pop" into place into the differential. You will know when they are in correctly. I had the differential supported with a piece of wood and a jack, slowly raising the differential into place. My wife was kind enough to gently pull down on the wheel hub assembly to give me enough room to wiggle the axle into place. Also, be careful of the speed sensor wire, I managed to break mine. ($13 part) Just be patient.

Good Luck,

John

Thanks John, I'll try using a block of wood. I was really surprised how heavy that thing is.

Installed my differential yesterday. When I reached out to my tuner for the remote tune he sent me a form to fill out and sign. He said he can't send me the tune until the paper is mailed back to him. I think this has to do with the lawsuit against sct. I just want confirm the only change is the speedometer and it's ok to drive til I get the tune.

Pretty good, just took my time with it. I ended up buying a small transmission jack to support it with.
