I left the office at about 5:15. The car had been parked since a little before 9 AM, outdoors. Today's high was about 43 F. One fob was in my pants pocket all day, so may have benefited from my body heat. The other fob was in my coat pocket, which was hanging all day.

When I got to the car, I could not unlock it with the tiny button on the door handle, but I could unlock it with the unlock button on the fob.

I got in, sat down, and the car started normally. No need to put my fob in the cup holder.

When I got home, I put new batteries in both fobs.

We'll see what happens tomorrow, as the weather is supposed to be clear, so it will be another Camaro commute day. FWIW, the commute is about 28 miles each way.

This morning, I brought a single key fob (with new battery) out to the garage with me. (The garage is kept at 45 F). I was able to unlock it using the small button on the door handle.

I got into the car, and it fired right up like it normally should. No need to put the fob into the cup holder. When I arrived at work, I was able to lock the car with the little button on the door handle.

I have no way of knowing, but I wonder if the fob batteries were weak from age, and maybe the car battery was a little low from sitting, and that made the fob hard to pick up? Just an idea.

I won't keep posting about it working normally, but will circle back to this thread if it goes wonky again or if any other action is required.

Believe it or not both of my remote batteries were dead. So replace them to just be sure before going on a wild goose chase.

Open the door with the key. Pull the cap off the door handle and use the key. Then put both pods in the back cup holder to reset the pods.

Happened to me for the first time yesterday. No problems starting the car several times, but when hitting the Start button to turn off the car there was a pause for a couple seconds, the engine would stop, and an error message about the fob not being detected. Lights and radio stayed on, even when opening the door. Happened x 3 yesterday, even with my second fob. Replaced the fob battery, so we'll see . . .

Same , two days ago. It was 111f and I was a bit worried. Was able to get in though and fire it up. New battery did the trick.

Oh, in case it hasn’t been stated, when this happens setting the key fob in the small or rear cop holder can save your butts.

I’m in the same situation, both key fobs stopped working. And I’m in Canada so I can’t do the reprogramming for some reason? Is there anything you can do other than bring it into a dealer?

I was told by the salesmen when I purchased my (now traded in 2022 SS ) in conversation about the electronics in the cars these days , he said change the fob batteries every year . It will save you time , money , and a headache. The fob and the car are always communicating , I've been told .
