Put bigger wheels and tires on it. Pretty sure it's not the suspension that makes the Z lower than an SS. You can probably pick up some winter wheels and tires for not much over 1k.

If you enjoy driving it then DRIVE it! I daily drive mine about 25,000 a year and have about 81k on it now. It's my only car and sure at times I have to gut it up when stuff happens but I'd rather drive and enjoy this awesome car than not because I'm afraid or trying to keep the value up. I feel great and smile every day driving this car. Priceless !!!

I can't imagine stripping the Z/28 of its exclusive track components, just to use it as a DD in Illinois. If this is what you choose, it will only be a Z/28 in name and not much else. For the amount of money you are going to spend to modify the Z for winter use, you could easily use that money on a logical DD and use the Z as a weekend toy.
Your car, your choice. Be smart about this.

Yeah ride quality is definitely subjective from one person to the next. I unfortunately haven't rode in a Z yet and was only going off of what I have seen others say. Maybe one day I will get that chance. They are amazing cars from what I've seen.
