New Patent for GM supercharging system
A new centrifugal style supercharge built into the intake manifold, it looks like it is the same design that is in the new rumored LT4. This may be what accounts for the "shorter" style of the LT4, usually a supercharged engine will be taller than the leaked images we've seen so far.

That's a really good idea but I wonder how you'd intercool it. Maybe build that into the intake as well? Seems like a lot of hardware stuffed in there.

Businesses apply for patents for a lot of reasons. One of the biggest reasons is to keep the competition from going forward with their ideas, make them license it from you or just stall them dead in their tracks.

I have to admit I am by no means an engineer, but looking at the patent images, I woder why it would be beneficial to pull in the amient air from the bottom closest to the "hot" engine when it seems they should have inverted the compressor/vane wheel to pull from the top/forward? from all we all know with CAI's and IAT's it just would seem more logical to be appropriated this way?

yeah I get that and I would imagine it aloows for longer runners for more torque, but more timing for higher IAT's would seem to cancel all of that. 4-8 inches more on the top would eliminate all of that it seems

Then wouldn't the hood need to be 4" to 8" higher too... Then you are almost right back to the standard SC height.

Really? How many people land on the hoods of automobiles (outside of stock market crashes)?
