2022 V6 Steering Wheel Stiff, Heavy After Alignment
I recently got a free alignment on my new Camaro and the mechanic said it was out of GM spec from the dealership, they made minor adjustments and now it takes medium, more effort to make left/right turns and stiffer handling as compared to lower effort before the alignment. I believe the positive caster angle was increased too much hence more heaviness in the steering, that's my theory but I'm not a master mechanic. Is stiffer, heavier handling normal after alignment? Present on both tour and sport modes, especially on sport which is more like a rock now.
Same mechanic said there's nothing else they can do to reverse the heavy steering issues by alignment, taking it to a more experienced mechanic Tuesday. I pray they didn't damage my Camaro with whatever they did. |

Caster is not adjustable on the Camaro, so hopefully that's not what they tried to change... Also, I never experienced anything similar after alignment, and my car has been through a lot. This definitely isn't normal.

Yes, an alignment can definitely change the steering effort. I know this because I had about 5 alignments on my 2012 truck. I was trying to re create the steering response and feel of the same exact 2010 truck I traded in (never had an alignment, other than factory). I was successful in doing so. If I remember correctly, the biggest factor was negative camber. (Although could be wrong)
As well, I just recently had an alignment on my LT1. It’s steering is a bit more stiff now as result, which I like. Like yours, it’s alignment was out of spec. Last edited by Chutzpah; 08-06-2022 at 09:06 PM. |

Attached specs, now it's the opposite with lack of road feedback on the front end and super light. Something isn't being properly adjusted and now I'm just at a loss.

Fr and R were really toed out and that's the worst spec to be off from as far as tire wear, I bet it does feel different now, just not to your looking but the after sheet that youre showing here looks fine.

Try rotating the tires. I got 1.4 neg camber front and .9 neg rear for sportier handling. I agree with white male about toe.
