Any power gains these days with muffler swaps?

Back a number of years ago swapping out the mufflers for a.. Flowmaster or something like that would get you a lot of power. What kinds of gains are expected now for axle backs on LT1’s?

Right about zero.

Yeah, the current muffler designs seem to use volume instead of restriction to dampen sound .

pretty nil. it's sound and looks is about it.

INtake and exhaust restrictions seem to me to be a thing of the past. YOu'd need mulitple dyno runs to see anything besides placebo/seat of the pants.

Yeah low single digits gain that would likely be offset by aero drag.

I’d do a ati pulley first unless you’re chasing sound

Nothing from a muffler swap. Significant gains from adding headers and tuning.

I just noticed you recommended a ATI pulley. A under drive pully/super damper?https://www.jegs.com/i/ATI/085/918856/10002/-1

What do you figure the underdrive pulley realistically is good for? 10hp or less?

Yes.

Just under 1mph in the 1/4.

It makes the engine smooth as butter too tho

That’s really priceless.

There was a member who tested an axle-back on an SS (MBRP Race I think it was) and he reported a gain of 5.09 rwhp. Did mention that it was loud as F*#! though.

He also tested the mentioned ATI underdrive pulley, and reported an 8.64 rwhp gain.

It seems that you have to do the entire exhaust to see any noticeable gains. Headers, Cats, Axle Back, ect. I did this and a E-85 tune along with a CAI and there's was a pretty decent gain. I want to do IM, Heads and Mild Cam next.
