M4/M2

I’m almost 5 months waiting for my allocation to be accepted on a 2022 2SS 1LE. Happy with the deal, dealership and car - but the waits killing me.

Going to look at a 2018 M4 competition and a 2021 M2 competition this weekend, although I can’t quite make my peace paying 15k more for a car that could get smoked by a 1LE on track - they are both available with multiple choices on the used market now and it’s primarily road use.

Opinions please gents

I feel your pain. My wait is nearing 9 months. As the weather will get warmer soon I'm starting to contemplate what other vehicles I could spend my money on. If you're not going to track often I'd certainly consider those other options. M2 Comp is pretty sweet! I assume you'll be paying a premium used however?

M2 comp was my first option as well but I'm glad they were too expensive. The Camaro is a better car but the M2 comp is good too. If you're going the M2 route just don't pay over MSRP. I personally wouldn't pay over 50k for a used M2 Comp. If you're going to pay close to 60k for that car you're better off getting the 2023 model year. Good luck!

I put in an order for a camaro then checked autotrader every single day, ended up finding a SS 1LE in virginia. I flew out bought it and drove it back home then canceled my order at the dealership.

My son in law has a 2020 M2 and loves it. Went to Germany to drive it with my daughter before it was delivered back to the states. He's on his second set of R888s after a few track days last year. I have no idea how or why this attachment is up side down. Its not in my files and I don't know how to correct it. Sorry

M2 Comp is a very good car. Camaro doesn't "smoke" it. Camaro is a little better, so it can get out in front, but not by much and size of M2 is better for autoX stuff, although weight is a bit disappointing for the size. M4 is more of a porker, still a very good car, but the better chassis of the Camaro starts to shine more in that comparison.

I was looking hard at the M2 when shopping for my 1LE, but the comp wasn't out yet. It wasn't a very hard decision given that, but if the comp existed when I was shopping, it would have been a much harder decision. The M2C is what the M2 should have been at first. BMW heard the masses though and quickly came out with the C, which solved most of the issues with the regular M2. They at least did this a hell of a lot faster than it's taken Ford to make a good non-GT350 mustang.

I always prefer the new route over the used route. I'd always wonder if the car was driven hard by the previous owner. Then there's wondering why the previous owner is getting rid of it, did he/she break something had it cheaply fixed, then unloaded it?

Have you gone to the constraints post to see if there is something on your order that's currently constrained? Maybe the 1LE package?

I feel your pain too. I got tired of waiting and was able to locate the same vehicle I ordered in transit to another dealer. The person who originally ordered the car got tired of waiting and went another direction, but didn't cancel the order.

Like some others have stated, I like the M2, but not the M4 so much. The issue I have with them is the cost. The 1LE is a better bang for the buck. I owned a BMW 135i for about 10 years. It had a Dinan Stage 2 tune and a host of M3 (E92) suspension upgrades. One reason I kept it so long was because I really like the way it drove, but another reason was trying to find something newer just cost so much. I really like the M2, but I just couldn't justify paying $60k plus for one. I'd also been looking at the 1LE for several years and finally decided to pull the trigger on one. I also sold the 135i when I got the 1LE.

I think you are going to enjoy the 1LE when you finally get yours. You would probably enjoy an M2 as well, but it's going to cost you more in the long run.

Imo
M4 checks almost all boxes
M2 same but too small
Maro checks all boxes and sounds leaps and bounds better.

Yes they did and BMW gave them $1000 buck towards the delivery. They were able to drive it for a few day and I think they put about 500 miles on it. They were living in Seattle then and he raced it on a couple track in that area. They are back in St Louis again so he races in the Chicago area, then at Topeka Ks and hopes to make some events at the new track here in Missouri called Ozark Raceway Park which is almost 4 miles long built by a professional road course team that also runs in the 24 Hours of Daytona. He had a little contact with the wall last year in Chicago, got off in the marbles and did about $5500 in damage to the front end. Back together and ready to for this year.

I can see why you'd want to go with the M4 or M2. I don't know how any of you guys are doing the waiting game. I couldn't do it, but that's just me. Maybe it's the new normal..?? If it was me, I'd be going with the car that's available if it was something I liked.

And that is just the entrance fee. As a former M4 owner, yes it is nice and the interior is better in some aspects. However, after the warranty expired I was afraid to push it.

Maybe I spent too much time in the forums, but I was afraid of breaking something. Every week someone would post their latest issue and $$. Multiple turbos, timing chains, plastic guides, VANOS, etc..

I do miss it sometimes but once I fire up my 1LE all is forgotten.

Forgot to add: If you like an amazing sounding exhaust, the BMWs are awful. The exhaust plays through the stereo.

I used to have a M3, and really loved the car. The cost of ownership is astronomical, and the cars aren't what they used to be either IMO and don't have half the soul of a V8 Camaro.

They're phasing out V8's as times are changing, and IMO there is no replacing that sound and feel.

They will be making M cars as they make today for many more years to come, they wont be hard to find any time soon. Missing an opportunity to buy a new V8 performance car would be a tragedy IMO.
