Are the sport & tour buttons separate from the 5 ptm settings?
I know this has been asked to death, even by me, but are the sport and touring buttons on the console separate from the 5 modes in ptm? Do we effectively have 7 drive modes? (Touring, Sport, Wet, Dry, 3, 4, 5) or are they equivalent to the first 2 settings in PTM? (Wet & Dry) or are they just there to toggle between the settings once you are in the PTM system? Does switching between the 2 while not in the PTM system have any effect on the suspension, traction and throttle calibration?

There aren't any modes on the Z that effect the suspension. The dampers are non electronic.

It impacts traction control (when it kicks on)...I'd assume it effects throttle response and the amount of power being put out at specific RPM ranges as well, but I'm not 100% on that. Suspension isn't going to be affected whatsoever.

^^^Fact.
This is a static suspension system. The buttons only affect the steering system, engine management, and traction nanny. You can go completely off, with some back ground traction nanny. I'm sure others may chime in, but thats a recap of what I recall reading over the past few years, and personal on track experience.

Suspension does not get touched. Steering and traction systems get effected. Even level 5 race setting will have traction intrusiveness.

Understood on the suspension part but are they 2 additional settings separate from the ptm? When I first start my car the "touring" button lights up. Nothing shows that in the dash however. I can hit the "sport" button and it will light, again with nothing indicating on the dash. So are those 2 separate settings from the 5 in the ptm? If so then what do they do?

With ptm off, tour and sport only change the steering weight.

Do they? I think that’s been the debate. Have you found documentation to support that or is it Internet forum stuff? That’s what I’ve heard too but I never found a way to validate it and I’ve toggled between the two and I can’t feel any difference.

69L48Z27, that's exactly my question as well. Do those buttons really do anything or are they just to toggle between the 5 PTM modes? My car always defaults to "Touring" when first started. Is that the same across the board?

I’m pretty sure mine stays in sport if I leave it in sport. I’ll have to check the next time I get in it.

I need to spend more time in my Z come spring/summer. But the way I understand it is you have tour or sport( 5 modes). Or, is it tour, sport and then 5 modes of PTM? I think that’s the op question as well so I’m just restating it. I would think that the docs would define sport mode if it was a separate mode.
I leave mine in tour, but I think it stays in the last selected mode. At least it doesn’t do as my wife’s trail hawk and shutoff the engine at stop lights( annoys the crap out of her). So who’s on second? |
