2011 Pace Car
I am researching the 2011 Pace cars and Festival Cars used at the track.
I have four actual Pace Cars, one with an "EX" on the end of the VIN and was auctioned at Barret-Jackson. The other three were used at the track. I have 51 convertibles as Festival Cars. #51 went to Bon Jovi. #46 was a give-away car for the Dave Foster Foundation. This was later sold or raffled. All these cars had RPO Code "Z4Z MERCHANDISED PKG INDY PACE CAR INDY PACE CAR". And all began with VIN 2G1FK?DJ (? is the check digit)-except one. manual trans which began with 2G1FT?DW. What is the "T"? I thought maybe coupe, but when I run it through a number of VIN decoders there is no difference between the two cars other than the trans. There were also two coupes at the track, #52 and #53. The VINs I have for these cars are not correct. Anyone have them? What should the first seven digits of the VIN be? I thought I knew, but it isn't making sense. Thanks |

Thanks-I saw this but it seemed incomplete. So i take it "1" is coupe so "3" ins convert. All the manual trans has a "W" engine, where autos have a "J". Why? Already had "B" as model year 2011.

Hi there! We have a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro convertible Indianapolis Pace Car. The Vin number is 2G1FK3DJ7B9179745. How would I find out what # Indy car it is?

If you are like me and didn't know much about pace cars there is much different about "real" and looks like a pace car.
I was thinking of buying a pontiac pace car and learned it had flashers built into it to actually pace the race. Not all "built" real pace cars went onto the track and paced. The look alikes maybe have done a parade lap or been around Indy but didn't pace. Other look alikes were never near anything Indianapolis and are a color and sticker package to get profit. I may like their color combo's but it doesn't make them any more special than an aniversary edition etc. Long gone are the days where they put a stronger drivetrain in them. A car that was used to pace is different and has a small niche following and more value. Just sayin' for many who were like me and didn't know the difference. |

Come to think about it. I think the 2011 was only "Pace Car" vinyl side. So they were "Festival Cars" paying homage to the old Pace Cars. So it was a Mix... a Festival Car with Pace Car decals. "Like the pace car and the festival vehicles, the replicas will pay homage to the Camaro SS that paced the 1969 Indy 500. All cars will receive a white paint job with dual orange racing stripes, and orange lettering running along the door panels. These cars will also receive an orange leather interior, complete with Indy 500 logos embossed on the front headrests." |

My 2015 Festival was basically the commemorative edition 2SS with some added stickers and I think color engine cover.. I had the dealer take of those lousy stickers before I picked it up. They did leave the 66/100 sicker on the inside dash.

Last week I saw a 2015 Festival car like yours, it was #18. It was someone's daily driver so they also too the decals off.
