To anyone reading the thread who is on the fence about tracking or a track virgin... Do it! You won't regret it, and if the guys can arrange a private event then you'll be able to track safe in the knowledge that everyone else is a fellow Z28 owner that will give you time and space to get upto speed.

I created a route. There is a "Main Route" and an Optional Route 2..for giggles to complete the Moonshiner 28 route to SC and bridal falls, and back in one day. Main course is the "Route 1" that will include alot of the Major twist roads, Tail of the dragon 2x, and a random stop off at the museum (of course, optional, but its really cool!).

Naturally all of this is Just some thoughts. The closest tracks, note "closest" is Atlanta motorsports park and Carolina motorsports park. 2.5 hrs away and 4.5 hrs away respectively.

My 8 cents, FWIW - which is about 2 cents....

1.) Start small with regional get-togethers that are fun. Good news travels fast, others will want to have fun as well. Seems like some of the local regions are already doing this.
2.) Open it up, but keep it exclusive. Huh? Limit participation would be another way of saying this. If everyone can come, it must not be that special.... If it's limited to X participants, no one will want to miss out! The Viper Owners Association had a biennial (every 2 years) get-together earlier this year in Vegas, limited to 800 people. All spots were filled within a week, some were unable to attend.
3.) Create an itinerary which includes (at least) "the other half". You'll get better participation and buy in from the wife-unit if it's not "all car-stuff/driving, all the time".
4.) Don't be afraid of down-time. Besides the scheduled events, include some time to "do whatever". Likely/hopefully people will be traveling long distances to attend the event, and will need some time to unwind and just check out the local area.
5.) Include as much as you can in the overall proposed/calculated cost. Include several group meals, activities, perhaps even hotel costs in the plan. Make people pay up front, well ahead of time.
6.) Get vendors/sponsors to help offset the cost. Provide an area where vendors can come and showcase/sell their stuff. Get them to help out with the cost of the event. Everyone wins.
7.) Make it a Z/28 event, but accept other cars. Wife-unit drove the Z/28 to the Viper event this year, where she was welcomed. Shit happens, and you can't always drive the car you want to take, but you'd still like to attend.
8.) Pick someone with a bunch of free time to plan all this out. NOT IT!

Well fellows I live just about dead center in the circle shown on one of the post.
I've driven just about every mountain road within the circle.
It won't be hard to put together a cruise route(s) with lots of twisting roads with gorgeous views. The dragon is OK, everyone should do it once to say they have, get pictures of your car with the "dragons" at Deal's Gap and see Fontana Dam (the highest dam east of the MS river) Weekdays are best, preferably early mornings.
Us locals have several other roads we prefer with less traffic and less law enforcement for mountain speed runs. And then there are lots of national park roads with more tourist type routes and scenery.
If a group gets serious about having an East TN/Western NC/Southeast KY Z/28 mountain run, I'll be in to help here locally. I have several Camaro friends that will likely join in. They may not be Z/28 owners but they can run the mountains just as fast.

Another option ive tossed around, Heartland Motorsports Park for a track day..potentially rocky mountain cruise. For a more centric gathering.

Been there and great scenery but for us easterners the Blue Ridge area would be a great adventure as its very scenic and a lot to do and see.
