The 392's are running mid/high 12's at the track with a few hero runs in the 12.3/12.4's. Most are still stuck in the 13's with the new driver blues. The 392's are untunable meaning no cams, heads, strokers, blowers etc so all you are going to see are CAI's and exhausts at the track.. SS's with the same mods are going to kill the 392's at the track. Add a tune and its taillight city for the 392.

Chrysler has a rolling code in the canbus that noone can crack so no tune for you, its the same for the 2011+ r/t's as well. They are DOA on the track. Its been 2 years with no tune support and a lot of 392 owners are trading em in for 2009-2010 SRT8's which have full aftermarket support. Now the 2012 with the adjustable suspension should do a bit better, but again all they can get is a CAI and exhaust so the money saved on the SS goes a long way into beating the 392. Have fun on the track!

All things being equal with stock vehicles, the 392 to me feels much faster. Again, i am not referencing track certified times or claims by any of the reputable publications (or non reputable for that fact).

Based upon owning at one time or another the base vette, 392, and ss camaro, the 392 will soundly beat the ss and not be embarassed by the vette. (few .10s faster)

Forget about the mods comparison cause there are camrys out there that can be modded to 700 hp. (saw on autoblog).

I understand the $/hp comparisons but I am purely comparing the cars regardless of price based on how they perform stock delivered from the factory.

The real fun will be when both the 392 supercharged from the factory and ZL1 have a chance to tangle...

Seems like stock for stock the 392 will win almost every time against a SS.

Why does it mean squat? I have driven allot of cars in my time. The subject of the thread is 392 vs. the SS. I am saying the 392 feels a good degree faster.

Bottom line is the SS will be looking at 392 tail lights in a stock race. It is upto you if you want to come to terms with this or not...

The 392 is no joke. I would LOVE to have it, except that it's so much more expensive, and cannot be tuned.

So would an SS with a supercharger take a stock 392 challenger in a race?

A super charger If I needed a super charger to keep up with a stock 392 I would sell this car! They are really not any faster and can go ethier way depending on driving, do full exhaust and a tune and thats more then enough to beat one.

I think a 392 is not far off a base vette...
I`ll race ya w/ my stock base Vette... Prepare for the
