Do you know if a katech port job would produce similar results

I don't know. Brett has posted his flow charts a couple of times. You could compare Katechs flow #s and see. Flow bench numbers will give you a pretty good idea of how the two heads will stack up against each other.

They look pretty similar but here is Katech. I have these on mines and they flow pretty good.

i wonder what caused the valve train failure on the pray ported head. something aside from the normal abuse seen by the na sbe crowd?

I believe they're hollow which is also why it's common for people who put Aftermarket cams with a higher RPM range drop oem valves since heat and hollow spaces dont really mix well together.

I love Pray's stuff, I will go to a High Ram on my next engine. I went to Manley ProFlows with undercut head on my cam change, and there was a noticeable improvement of midrange and top end, granted it was two changes (cam and undercut valves); that said the 2nd cam had lower lift and gentler ramps but longer duration so it was expected to produce about the same HP as my .660 lift cam but last longer and have a stronger loop.
