Road Course Tires for ZL1 1LE
Hey everybody,
I'm looking for advice / experience / comments on what I might try in lieu of the factory GY SC3R's that come with the car. I'm very happy with the performance but am only getting 5 track days out of them. I can stretch the rears to maybe 7 track days but that's it. Tire cost is killing me. Has anybody tried scrubs? Is so, is that a cost effective / performance effective way to go? What about other brands for more longevity? All thoughts are welcome. Thanks, Al |

you can also use Goodyear Supercar 3s instead of 3Rs and they are less than $350 each. Pirelli Scrubs are the best deal (if you can find them) at $125-150 each.

I agree with Stephen12ZL1 that Pirelli DH slicks are the most cost effective tire option and once they're hot they stick like glue. But to get them in close to ZLE widths you have to choose 18" tires and this means buying 18" wheels in 11" front, 12" rear. Good custom 18" wheels in that size are $3000+
19" PSC2 have less grip but more longevity, I run those in 315 front/345 rear. Helps offset the lower grip and fits ZLE great. Last edited by SFV1LE; 03-18-2020 at 02:51 PM. |

Nitto NT01 will last about twice as many sessions as the 3R, cost about 100 more, slightly less grip but more predictable.

NItto's are a great tire on a Miata, they are a terrible tire on a heavy car like a Camaro. IMO. 3-4 seconds off the pace of the OE G3R.

I have Michellin PS4s for my street setup on my ZLE but there have been 3 track days where I had to use them either due to wet and/or cold weather. I also have some laps with them in the dry. I also have a set of GY 3Rs on Apex wheels for ideal weather conditions. The PS4s have impressive tread life on the track and also give you good grip for a wet or cold track day.

R888R is another option, they last a lot longer than GY3R but don't have the same level of grip. Also they're expensive.

Thanks for the input guys. Has anyone tried to go same size wheels/tires on all 4 corners? I tracked a kit Cobra for a while and went that way to increase my rotation options for longer tire life. It worked out quite well but the Cobra, admittedly, was a completely different car in almost every way...weight, track/wheel base ratio, balance, etc.
