I'm curious if this ever got resolved for the OP. I've had the same problem a few times and drove the vehicle to the dealership with "brake assist" and limited brakes due to the "cannot duplicate" situation. Scanned the car and found low vacuum is what triggered the the vehicle into this "brake assist" mode. It has been there for weeks and stating it will be another 60-90 days before GM gets a new program figured out to correct the problem.

I know the route I need to go with this car after multiple rear diffs and this problem.

F that gm should be at least taking care of a few payments for you, and thats not something you should have to ask for but it is..If I were you I would do the lemon law and make them give you a new car or your money back. Seems like you would have a solid case. Good luck!

This happened to me and they replaced master cylinder, then it happened once since but I did not bring it in, they would believe me when I told them I lost almost all of my braking ability.

This happened to mine today. I had been listening to the radio for awhile then started it up - this message came on and the brakes felt very strange. Turned off, restarted, same message. Turned off and restarted again and it went away.

I had this happen to me once while I was backing into a parking space. Even at a slow speed, It startled me because I was not ready for the reduced braking power. Once I restarted the car awhile later the message went away and the brakes were fine. The dealer could not find any codes when they looked at it.

Crickets, as per usual. Is Stevie Wonder the head of Camaro issues? My rear diff sounds like a dying whale every morning.

File a NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint

COMPLETE this 5-step form -- it takes about 5 minutes

Here's a great clue...Sticky vac sensor

Power Brake Booster Replacement

The vacuum in the brake booster assembly is measured by the brake booster vacuum sensor.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies a 5 V reference and a low reference circuit to the brake booster vacuum sensor.

The vacuum sensor supplies a voltage signal in relation to the pressure in the brake booster to the ECM.

To address this condition, install a new power vacuum brake booster.

Do not replace the ECM or power brake booster vacuum sensor.

YMMV

This seems like good info, but why the dealers are not doing more to address the situation? Class action lawsuits waiting to happen!

P.S. pardon my english iam half drunk!

2 Things -

I wanted to add that the booster check-valve could also be intermittently sticking.

With no hard failure, a tech must assign probabilities.

As to why aren't dealers doing more?

Well, I may write a book on the real car industry story someday, but to sum up:

No main-stream manufacturer pays techs for diagnosis, test driving, etc

No pay for researching problems

1/3 less pay for warranty work - a warranty ticket is a shit ticket - Get it in, get it out. Try to sell add-on work

That's why you get so many "Unable to duplicate" service responses

One guy used to write "Works fine" - what they're really saying is - "f you ahole, I can' make a living with this BS!"

Can't make a living on bs warranty pay, unless you cheat the time by cutting corners that would make you gasp in awe.

Successful techs "smoke" as many tickets as possible - steal from customers on customer pay, and from manufacturer on warranty work,

and most dealership owners know and allow this to happen - it stuffs their pockets further...

Crazy I have not experienced this yet my cars been fairly good.

I will say though they didn't take the ignition problem serious for a long time resulting in death for some :(

lets hope this don't have to go there for them to make a fix this is something that should be found and a fix made for it.

I love the car but this would bother me badly if it happens my wife broke her eye socket and watched a friend have his neck snapped and both arms nearly ripped off going only 40 km an hour. It was a older Ford Explorer with brake failure!

I need to add that:

If you need an American muscle car, Camaro and Corvette are rated significantly higher in reliability than Mustang or Challenger.

Owners report year after year Average reliability on Camaro and Corvette.

Mustang and Challenger are rated Much Worse Than Average, year after year.

Source: Consumer Reports owners yearly surveys

This Camaro is the coolest thing since Hot Wheels came out in the 60's.

I just want everyone to be able to enjoy it, with a few less headaches...

Don't make me buy a Camry
