Odd VIN Number?????

was looking at cars today at a dealer. was looking at VIN numbers, and noticed this number was out of the ordinary, or did i miss something. it read something like this 2G1FT1EW5A9008821. Now i thought that after the A9, the next digit is supose to be a 1. this one had a 0. i also looked at the other ones and they all had the 1 after the 9. any ideas???

This car was built before the offical start for production on 3/16/09. This is the car to buy and store for 20 years. It could be worth something one day.

it's a pre-production retrofitted car. Most likely a Capture Test Fleet vehicle.

What he said - other than you have the VIN with one too many 8s in it -- it should be A9000821. Cars starting with regular production in March of 2009 went to A91XXXXX.

They are trying to tell you that of all the 5th Gens built yours would be the most likely to be reach collector car status. It doesn't mean it will, just that it is one of the most likely too.

We had a Canadian CTF vehicle (neither were yellow) and they are driven by employees mostly as a daily driver. This is a way to evaluate and find any potential issues prior to cars built for customers. Mileage will vary depending who the car is assigned to and how much they drive it. Some people will live very close to work and not take it on any long trips. Others (like us) had a longer commute and took many long trips. I don't recall what we put on both cars, but they were driven everyday from Toronto to Oshawa, many trips back and forth from MI, and one long trip from Oshawa to South Florida.

For the most part they are the same as production Camaros or are retrofitted before they are sold. For example our 2SS didn't have the correct door panels, but everything else was the same...

Hope this helps
