iPhone in car at all times?
Hi! I have a spare iPhone with a teared battery that I want to use for GPS, music and hotspot. I was thinking to keep it always connected to Carplay (and leave it there over night).
Is this safe to do? I am more interested if it drains the car battery when the engine is off. Thanks! |

Can't see how, charging port goes dead when you shut your car off. I left my phone in there overnight and haven't had any issues.

I personally think that's asking for it to be stolen (I NEVER
leave my phone or valuables in my car, very likely it will be broken into) but otherwise no not unsafe to the mechanics of the car or phone. |

The USB ports are in the center console storage? Just keep it in there, no need to take it out if its gonna be plugged in 24/7.

During hot summer months (while I park outside in the sun for most of the day), can the battery explode in there? I don’t know how hot can get in there, since I have a sunroof. Or worse, catch fire. |

Out here, rifling is very common. I accidentally left my doors unlocked and walked away for a few hours and came out to find all the contents of my glovebox and center console scattered all over my seats because someone entered my car searching for stuff. Nothing was damaged or stolen because I didnt leave anything valuable but just stating what could happen. I always take my valuables with me.

I keep an old android phone in my car for the same thing (connected to car hotspot for data). I keep it in the center console. The only problems I run into on a hot summer day is the phone will shut down for being too hot and charging at the same time, so I'll lose connection. It only ever happens on the hottest of days. I also have apps installed to warn me via notification of battery temp getting to high.

Keep it in the console so nobody sees it , I wouldn’t leave it there in the summer the heat will screw up the phone. I had my iPhone on playing music on the front seat with the windows open while waxing my car and all of a sudden it died there was a message on the phone it was to hot and it automatically shut off .
And whatever you do don’t tell nobody you have a iPhone in your car it’ll disappear fast, especially co-workers.

Excessive heat and cold also shortens battery life, in case that matters to you.
