Drag tires:

I'm sure a very good argument can be made for their use as "stock". The addition of these stickies will allow the full potential of the vehicle to be displayed by removing wheel slippage during the 60' (most important phase) of a 1/4 mile run.

Simply removing an unwanted variable?

Glad you were able to put it all together. Can't wait until we get that fall air on a nicely prepped track! We'll start seeing those bone stock 10 second passes.

That's going to be my first "mod". After I've ran about as fast as I feel the car will go, in whatever the best conditions for me end up being, I'll then do the same thing with a tire and have a good baseline to build off of. I'll know how much the tire helped and know what any other changes make later on.

Unfortunately, I'll have a 1LE m6 with launch issues, unless they have it dialed out when our car arrives.

I've been looking at drag radials myself. I wouldn't mind running them full time on my stock wheels, but they don't make any in the right size yet. They're all too tall and will rub my inner fender liner. I've found some 18" Mickey's that should work if I decide to just bolt them on when I go to the track. May do that. Not sure yet. A tire will definitely be the first thing I do to the car. Want to see what I can do bone stock, and stock with a tire, before I start modding. Plus I'm not quite ready to forfeit my warranty.
I highly recommend the 555R for driving around. They work great and mine have lasted about 12,000 HARD miles. Not bad at all for the grip they've given.

Surprised there's not a 555R close to the size you need. The MT is a good tires as well, and I think provides even better grip, but at the expense of much reduced tread life. There are a couple MT versions out now, the Hellcat folks like the ET Street R, but it is a strip only tire IMO, not enough tread if you get caught out in the weather. The ET Street SS would be the closest to the 555R I believe.

That's kinda my plan as well. I had to skip the stock tires since mine came with all seasons (completely useless) and went straight to a DR. Beyond tires I wanna see what little changes can be made for cheap to net real gains in ET. The Hellcat has a lot of potential based on the data log testing I've done.

Do you do any data logging on your ZL1? If not I highly recommend it. Not sure how familiar you are with the process, but I can help if you're not, and help you interpret the data. I'm pretty good with that kinda stuff.

M6, fun to drive but handicapped at the strip for sure. Been there done that got the t-shirt.

You just can't be afraid to break it LOL

I really want this resolved, I don't want to go aftermarket flash and end my warranty.

Yeah, I was shocked too that no one makes a drag tire that size. I'm sure they will at some point, but I'll have to wait. If I decide to get an 18" wheel, there is a MT Street R that should work. Since I'd only be bolting those on for the strip, they would be great. Hopefully they'll come out with a Street SS or one of these other companies brings something out, so I can eventually run a DR all the time.

I've never data logged, but have been contemplating buying HP Tuners for that and to eventually tune some simple stuff. Is that what you use?

The Camaro usually leaves fairly slow for a little bit, maybe 100ft or so for whatever reason. It may be Nannies and it may be driver. Not having a sticky tire is a negative but for overall performance the Didge pales in comparison. On a road course the Dodge is in the mirror. Think about it, 4 seconds behind the revered Viper at the "Ring" for half the money.
4 seconds behind the gen IV and now 8 year old viper

My tracks are just as quick as ATCO. I run at Capitol Raceway and Maryland International Raceway. I'm closer to Capitol though, and since changing management, their track prep has been on par with the best hooking tracks I've been on.

HPT is the go to for Chevy "stuff", for Dodge it's Diablo so that's what I use. Diablo have the Trinity which is cool in theory, but lacks in actual design execution IMO. The nice thing about it is it's a small hand held that is touch screen (a bit bigger than a cell phone). You can setup a dashboard and data log all the PIDs you need, so that is handy and makes it quick and easy at the line. I used to do it with an older version of the tool that needed a laptop to be real effective and it was kind of a PITA. The downside to the Trinity is it won't act as a USB device to drag and drop tunes to when plugged in to a PC, requires special software to access, and they sometimes get the PIDs wrong which causes lockups etc. Buggy at times, but once sorted it works very well.

You can find the Trinity (T1000) for sale used reasonably priced and it will work with the Camaro. If you can find it cheap enough to justify it as just a data logger, it's worth it for that, but if you decide to get serious about tweaking tune stuff HPT is likely a better solution for that on the Chevy. I've not used HPT, but I "think" you need it connected to a laptop to get good log data? If it's similar to the Trinity with touch screen, etc then disregard and just go with it period.

Ah yes, MIR....very familiar with that one and it's prep is well known to be one of the best around.

Everything I've seen, you're right. The only way to data log with HPT is with a laptop, unless there's something out there I've not seen. I wouldn't mind having something cheap and easy to use for logging. Even if I eventually went with HPT for tuning, it'd be nice to have a simple plug and play logger to use.
