Catch can...which one? Void warranty?
Trying to learn as much as I can about this car. I'm a master to my other child (dyno tuned Solstice, know the car inside and out and can diagnose most issues from my chair) and I WILL become a master of this child. Three questions for you all....
1. I've seen a lot of posts about catch cans. Are they needed for an SS 1LE? 2. Will it void my warranty? 3. I'm not planning on modding my car at this point, I'm more a stock to mild stuff....that said, if I should get a catch can, which one do you recommend? |

Just put one on and if you have to go to the dealership for any reason just take it off if your that worried about it voiding your warranty. I would personally say they work because I have empty my catch can a few times. I recommend the Mighty Mouse Catch, but in reality they all work just different dollar figures. Just don’t buy the cheapest one IMO.

Unless you're a very young man, there's enough reading on catch cans here on the Camaro6 forums to occupy you for the rest of your life. Here is my experience: Completely disassembled my motor at 16k miles to add mods in my signature. Intake valves had a decent amount of buildup. Added JLT catch can along with blower, cam, etc. Pulled blower off at 27k miles to replace faulty high pressure fuel pump. Valves were pristine.
I would venture to guess that 11k Forced Induction miles would be expected to result in much more blow by / valve deposits than 16k NA miles. Based on my experience, the catch can appears to be effective.

If you plan on doing a lot of heavy driving the catch can should be your first mod. I personally went with the mighty mouse can.. should not void your warranty. and as black beast mentioned if you are worried about it, it's literally a 5 min job to remove it and place back factory hoses

I would definitely remove the can before going to the dealer for any warranty issues, especially any engine related issues. There are a couple of posts buried somewhere in the forums where gm has denied warranty claims for engine failures because of catch cans. It doesn't matter what your dealer does or says, they have to get approval from GM corporate to replace a failed motor. If GM gets wind that a catch can was involved, you're typically screwed.

does your car need a catch can? only way to find out is remove the throttle body and see how much oil is in there.
ill say this - my car used a fair amount of oil (~1 qt every 5k miles) until it was broken in (15k miles). after 15k, oil consumption all but stopped. i still run a catch can simply to keep the oil from building up on everything and/or potentially causing issues with lspi. my car isn't stock but it is a far cry from a race car.
