2020 Camaro- first shift always rough?

My 2020 Camaro LS (2.0/A8) always has a delayed/harsh shift from 1st to 2nd the first time I drive my car each day. After that it’s butter smooth.

Is this normal?

Also, totally unrelated question, but does the 2.0 not have a tow hook socket in the front anymore? My state requires a license plate in the front and I was planning to get one of those brackets that screws into the tow hook socket.

I have the same "problem" as well. From what I was told from the dealership they said it's normal. Some of their other vehicles do the same thing.. But I can never take their word for it since they also told me the shuddering issue, which is unrelated to this, might also be normal.

Mine does it as well, but only when cold. Easy way around it is to go really easy on the gas pedal during the 1-2 shift

My 16 2SS does it as well. Gets a little hairy in crowded parking lots.

Do you wait for the idle speed to go down before shifting into D?

That much warm up is recommended.

My 18 SS does it as well. Done it since new. I believe it has something to do with the torque converter and the fluid within it. If I let the car warm up for a few minutes, the shift is much smoother. First time I noticed it I thought something broke! The jolt was, well, jarring!

Always been my mantra before I drive off anywhere. I let the needle go and even give it an extra minute or two from there.

The strangest part is it's only the first shift. It'll perform the harsh shift. I can come to a complete stop immediately after, and then it's smooth from there even though it's only been 5ish seconds since the first harsh shift.

#16-NA-361: Information on Transmission Harsh 1-2 Shift Upon First Start Up/Shift of the Day Under Light Throttle - (Oct 8, 2019)

North America and N.A. Export Regions

Condition

Some customers may comment that the transmission exhibits a harsh 1-2 shift on the first shift of the day, typically under light throttle.

Cause

This condition is due to the initial clutch fill time of the 2-3-4-6-8 (C4) clutch.

Information

Some customers may experience a flare condition on the first 1-2 shift of the day or after the vehicle has been parked for several hours. The condition may have developed after the replacement of a complete transmission assembly or the replacement of the stator support to correct a delayed engagement condition. This is most likely to occur under light throttle conditions. Subsequent 1-2 shifts have acceptable shift feel. Replacing transmission components will not correct the condition.

Correction

Important: Replacing transmission components or complete assemblies will not improve the condition.

The first 1-2 shift of the day may be harsh. The customers’ vehicle should be compared to a like vehicle under the same driving conditions. Do Not replace any parts for this condition.

Note: This condition will not impact the designed performance or reliability of the vehicle.

I've been shifting in and out of 1st-2nd a few times while in park. Try that and see if it works.
