94 Octane. Yay/Nay?

I never run anything less than 93. I've noticed a Sunoco near my job that sells 94. Curious if it will make a difference in any 'snap' or fun with the car as a treat here or there?? Besides the wallet, any damage it could cause? Only mechanical mod I have is a Rotofab intake. Thanks!

There is no change in energy, but could help with knocking if you just had an issue with it running 93, but you shouldnt. If its the same price, go for it. If its more expensive then you are just wasting your money.

It gives you the ability to compress the gas/vapour more without pre-igniting and when used in the correct engine and tuned properly you will get more power and avoid knock. I run 94 with octane booster in a half tank that gives me 98 octane. It’s the cooling effect we want in order to keep our timing up on pulls/races. Sorry a bit off topic but if you can afford it and have mods to support higher octane, go for it.

Your case 93 is fine with a stock set-up.

If it's not knocking at 93, using 94 or higher will not improve anything.

Won't cause damage other than to your wallet, as you said. Highly unlikely you will notice any change in performance. In theory, an engine optimized for 93 will develop slightly less power on 94. This difference may not even be measurable with sophisticated equipment because 93 and 94 are so close.

If curiosity is killing you the best way to try it is to finish the tank of 93 and fill up on 94.

You might see a few additional hp if you tune for 94. I assume it's not tuned now.

LT1 and LT4 engines live off the knock sensors even bone stock. Zero drawback to running a little extra octane, especially in hot weather or heavy load conditions.

Yup

The extra octane will certainly help. Depends on the Cost if the 1 pt is worth it to ya.

I've been running it for the last few years when I run across it.
No noticeable gain on stock car.
I run Sunoco exclusively, no other reason than consistency as there are some shady stations around here.
Price is the same as 93.

Does the pump say what percent ethanol the 94 octane is? The manual says you can use up to 15% ethanol and normal 93 octane is up to 10% ethanol.

With the Camaro's 19 gallon fuel tank you could mix 1 gallon of E85 with 18 gallons of 93 octane E10 gas to make your own 93.6 octane E14 gas. Note that you would probably have to adjust the ratios a bit to do this yourself since it is difficult to completely empty the 19 gallon fuel tank without running out of gas. Maybe this type of E15 mix is what that Sunoco gas station is selling.

no unless you tune for it and even if you tune for it, the tuner may get a degree out of it or maybe not netting is zero to maybe a HP or 2.

The Sunoco 94 around here is 10% ethanol.

There was a Sunoco station that had 92 pure gasoline, no ethanol last summer.

My question would be, is 92 pure gasoline better than 93-94 with the ethanol mixed in?
