8” Mylink Screen Removal

How do you remove the 8” screen in the 2SS? There’s a good YouTube video for the 7” but not the 8”. I’ve heard you need to pull the plastic panel with the buttons on it up first, but I couldn’t figure out which way to pull it and didn’t want to break it.

My reason for doing it is to try and figure out a clean way to remove the ambient lighting behind the screen (looks like a light leak IMO). I have electrical tape there now but I don’t like the look of it. If anyone has done this I’m open to suggestions.

This video shows the removal of the 8" infotainment screen. Very easy to do, and as to the button cover panel, you can safely pry it up from the bottom with a plastic trim tool, it'll pop up well before you'd break it.

Your car should be under warranty. Why not let the dealer do this?

So glad you started this thread! I just bought a 2016 with the 8" screen and one of the very first things I noted driving at night was the "light leak" coming from behind the screen. Looks like a total miss from GM's design/quality group.

Please post how your project turns out! Since I'm up in the snowbelt, I wait for the warmer weather to do most of my mods.

As I watch Lethal's video, it seems the vertical slit (circled in red) may be the source of the light leak. . . do you think this is for ventilation that keeps the screen from over-heating? If we cover those up, do we risk damaging the screen? Maybe I'm being a little overly-cautious. . .

That light leak isn't a leak at all. There are actually leds behind the screen that shine on the dash by design. It's supposed to help with your eyes and the bright screen at night. Once you pull the screen off the dash you will see what I mean.

Hope this helps

Sorry for butting back in here, but this is actually a nice feature, just as squish72 commented. In fact there is a little white LED behind each door handle that also complement the ambient lighting feature.

I used electrical tape on the two LEDs, for me the LED do not help at night and only make me focus on that light.
