No they aren't, I wouldn't even have mentioned it if they were. If problems arise later I will deal with it then but so far so good.

Stock plugs, not coated but I do have wire sleaves that I bought because I was scared of plug wire issues based on these forums. 12,000 miles later with headers and no issues.

and you are in Dallas, so I am assuming it gets hot there lol.

I will revisit wrapping the header by the starter but only If I can do it without removing anything...
I looked to me like it would be fine the way it is.... I wonder is it a bigger issue on 2' headers or it doesn't matter cause its close to the collector

So what do you guys think....I looked in to heat shield products spark plug boot heat shield sleeves, their pricey at $110 for 8 and also the heatshield products exhaust and header wraps. Not crazy about the look of wrapped headers. But their marketing is catchy especially the physics and explanation of the effects of the product. What are you guys using?

I'm not using anything in mine, no issues so far.

I did swain tech ceramic coating. no issues but its only been 1 summer 9000 miles. My 17 starter had a heat shield. i believe the 16s didn't. http://swaintech.com/race-coatings/ cost me $350. they are local so i dropped them off. they are the best. its not paint like the other places that say they are ceramic.

Beautiful.
Swain tech are one of top coating company in my book. Price sounds good compared to jethot coating.

You and I have the exact same ceramic coated headers except I painted mine black.

I also initially installed the kevlar spark plug wire sleeves. But they looked horrible in an otherwise clean engine bay so I took them off.

1) keep your eye on the plug wires, they can and will move over time. Make sure a plug wire never, ever touches a header pipe. 2) The stock plug wires are fine, but wire sleeves are a good mod and worth the money. They prevent direct contact between pipe and wire and keep exhaust heat from degrading plug wires over time. 3) Coating your headers is a great idea, dissipates heat more quickly and lowers underhood temperatures during cool down. Coating and wire sleeves together are well worth protecting your plug wires and engine compartment generally from external heat. 3) Do not wrap your headers. Coat them. Wrapped headers are not nearly as effective, can lead to hot spots on the pipes, can facilitate rust, and, IMO, look like crap.

Yeah and they are all relatively easy / cheap to protect.

Starter - I got the DEI starter blanket but my headers (Kooks Long-Tube 1 7/8") came with some heat tape for it too. I went with the blanket because I have already experienced the starter getting heat soaked with the OEM exhaust manifold after a couple of 20 minute track sessions so it was already something I intended to address.

Plug Wires - I have OEM wires with DEI Boots on.
