Best source of impartial hp gain tests

Hey guys I'm pretty sure im going to get a ton of you can search for this type of info but im posting anyways 😂

As I've looked at mods for my 2018 2ss I've noticed a ton of bias towards pretty much any part you can think of and have then heard the "I tested on a insert name dyno "

So my question is how would a regular guy who's interested in lightly modding his car get the best impartial information I can. Examples are "rotofab gains the most hp no tune required" , CAI intakes (including GM cold air intake from CAI) make you lose power (with or without tune) , and finally npp exhaust sucks go with aftermarket.

Thanks in advance everyone!

One great source of impartial data is to look at what guys are running on the fastest cars in the country. You will find that many of the fastest Camaros are running a Roto-fab CAI or Roto-fab Big Gulp Series CAI - because it works!

There is no condensed source of information, just gotta spend time on the forum and learn as you go.

Generally speaking product bias usually has solid logic behind it on the forums. A forum is a place that bad ideas and suggestions usually get shot down pretty quick, as there are hundreds of actual experts with the ability to chime in.

Pray is probably the most knowledgable on the platform when it comes to hp on the camaro. If you want to get a good idea quickly, simply do a search for his posts and read them.

Roto-fab is the choice of the quickest cars.
NPP has a fantastic sound with stealth versatility.
E85 flex sensor is prob one of the best bangs for the $$.
Def need drag radials if you want to test it at the strip.
Porting your stock IM/TB will pick up some power.

These cars run great right out of the box. GM sharpened their pencils in most aspects of the car so the gains are incremental for most mods. Good luck and enjoy your ride.

You can always try to test it yourself. Unfortunately, I don't have a place to work on my car anymore, the tools around to do it with, and unfortunately a lot of "do-good-ers" around to stop me. But you can always test it yourself and not have to take someone's word for it. If you can find a very level piece of ground and have a scanner or hptuners, even a cheap Bluetooth OBD adapter, you can use virtual dyno or excel to plot your speed vs time. You just need to make sure you test runs at the same time and in a high enough gear to get traction.

You can datalog at a high enough sample rate. Also I'm not sure if we could get the PID's to read the car's accelerometers, but you could also use that. I've used virtual dyno to verify that the NPP does in fact add 5 peak hp. As long as your method is repeatable.

Unfortunately, the only gains I have been able to prove is the NPP (track vs stealth mode). Roto fab, ported intake I haven't since I couldn't install them all fast enough to do test runs at the exact same time and conditions, that's important. If only I could have my own track and engine dyno in my back yard, but I live in an apartment now.

Even though you need basically no expensive tools for this its still hard with all the do gooders around and its also very difficult to find flat level ground long enough, depending on where you live.

100% never trust the company that makes the product for factual gains in power. For example, a particular cold air intake will gain 25hp over stock! This axle/catback will gain 25hp and 30tq! Just understand that these are typically exaggerated claims and may indeed be true under the most ideal/absurd conditions.

Look around and ask the members that are out there as to what their results were. That’ll be your best gauge.
