UPDATE: I received fortunate (and absolutely correct) news today that, GEICO, the other driver’s insurance company has accepted 100% liability so I’m thankful this will not be any battle. Now, to move on with the repairs.

On another note, I am a crash investigator myself and took liberty to image the airbag control module (many of you may think of this as a car’s “black box”) of my car. Though there was no airbag deployment, the module can still record a non-deployment crash event if there is a change in velocity of 5mph or more. My car did not record this event so that glancing blow I took did not exceed 5mph. But “Ouch!”, the amount of damage it still caused and time and money it will take to hopefully get it back to 100%.

He should be driving around with a BIG OLE PILLOW on the front of that truck, NOT A WINCH! What a dummy, might be time for someone to hang up their big boy pants and start taking uber.

Edited to add: I got T-BONED by a old guy in a safeway parking lot one time. I was BROAD-SIDE STOPPED right in front of him DRIVING A BRIGHT RED TRANSAM, he came cruising down the isle at about 8mph and slammed into my passenger door as I sat helplessly waiting for someone to cross in front of me. LOL To top things off i couldn't even get mad at him, he was on the verge of a heart attack just exchanging info. I wouldn't be surprised if i wasn't the only person he hit that week.

Had I not veered left, I t-bone him hard instead with a likely outcome far worse for both of us. The fantastic brakes on these 1LE’s wasn’t going to be enough (as far as time and distance that I had to work with). The incredible handling of this car just hooked like it is on rails to aid in this crash being far less severe.

Yeah its good that one of you were paying attention. A glancing blow is alot better than a direct hit. DID ANYTHING HAPPEN TO THAT TRUCK? I think I know why he has the winch, it stops his truck from getting damaged when he runs into people!

His truck sustained a shift of the front bumper to the passenger side, a broken marker light, and perhaps would need a new grille (since it’s all one piece). That’s all I noticed...oh, and blue paint transfer

UPDATE: Learned today parts are in and repair begins first of next week. Also, damage behind the quarter panel is not as severe as first feared. After repairs and paint, it will need to sit for 5-7 days for the paint to cure. Then, they will flatbed it to the vendor I used for the Xpel (coincidentally the same one I used in the past), re-Xpel everything, the flatbed it back to finish the details (reinstall C7 Carbon side skirt and Camaro front fender badging). I estimate at least three more weeks if I’m lucky.

I would check that with the xpel tech hotline… I think that's too early for you to cover up fresh paint. Are they baking the paint on?

Fresh paint from the body shop usually takes 30 to 60 days to outgas.

I hear you. Thanks for that point. This collision center is top notch and do “bake” on the paint in their State-of-the-art paint booths. Also, they are only 1 if 3 authorized Porsche collision centers in GA as Jim Ellis sells those too. They do excellent work. Moreover, the vendor actually works out of MotorCars of GA, an exotic car dealership in a Sandy Springs. The two spoke today and certainly discussed things over. For me, your point is well-taken and appreciated. I will look it over and watch it with a keen eye as time moves forward. If there are any issues that arise, everything will be warrantied. I feel confident with their craftsmanship and experience and my own personal satisfaction from a prior experience. Thanks again. Ultimately, will just have to wait and see

A painful sight 🤢😔

UPDATE: So, my car is STILL in the body shop (59 days now), so I dropped by to take a peak at the progress. I was escorted to my car lined up to go next into the paint booth. I guess the body work looks fine but sure was hard to see it in this shape. What once was an interior that still smelled and looked new was a scary sight to see, not to mention the engine bay. Other than some bug splatter to the front from driving in the north Georgia mountains, it was exceptionally clean. Yikes! at its appearance now. I was assured it will be cleaned up really well, but Lordy that bondo dust is freaking everywhere inside. View photos at your own discretion 🤢

That is hard to look at. I'm always amazed at how stupid body shops are about protecting the interior when working on a car. There has to be a better way!

Yikes that hurts me to look at seriously. They look like a organized legit body shop so what I don't understand is why did they not tape some plastic over the open window areas to prevent the interior from getting all the sanding dust in it? My local painter will tape plastic on the inside when he removes glass or panels so it blocks a lot of the dust from the outside getting into the interior.

😔 I know. They’ve had it now for 58 days. Earlier in the process it was sealed with plastic but this was before the quarter panel and right rear wheel well crush panels were cut out and replaced. I was shocked to see it like this. I’ll tell you, their Detailer has his work cut out for him. Now I know to inspect inside of the front speakers, along stitch lines, under the seats, around the radio, the instrument cluster, defrost vents and other vents, etc. I will show up with a mirror and light. I took it here based on a top notch quality job they did on my 4th Gen. But, that did not require panel replacement like this one did. I pray it will come out perfect but I have to say I’m worried. This is the 3rd Camaro I’ve owned, 3rd one crashed into too (why me), and also the quickest to be damaged. I had hoped to be one of those guys who would buy one, keep it forever, and keep it really nice. Perhaps it’s just not meant to be. That diminished value check forthcoming is looking larger 🤔
