Yep I'm old enough to remember those days but also remember the national median income for a household was around $9500 in those days. Average cost of a new car was around $2000 so a Camaro was not a cheap purchase. Although it did have enough leg room to fit the kids in the back. Although the % of income is a little higher these days the value was much much better in my opinion. If you started out for a 500 mile drive in 1969 you better have a tool box in the trunk and an extra fan belt.

I remember reading classifieds like that. I bought my numbers matching 1971 Chevelle SS 396 for about $3500 back in 84.

I think it was likely a bit more recent than 1969. All of those cars being advertised are used and most of them are 1969 models.

New Camaro these days is still at least $30k MSRP that’s for the little entry 4 banger. I can tell you the median income today is not $120k. Looks like some generations made out great while others continue to get their trickle down doodoo dollar

Say it louder haha. But seriously I’m in disbelief that a camaro with no options and with the least powerful engine in the lineup is 30k. Tbh I am also surprised at how high the msrp was on my 2ss 1le. Only 10 years ago that was zl1 money.

I can't believe how cheap cars were back then, even adjusted for inflation they're extremely cheap compared to today, the Vettes included.

Just calculated the 2023 price of the 68 vette with the 427 listed for $4,850. Comes out to just under 43k. If I could get a brand new vette for that much I probably would have went that route haha.

I know car tech has gone way up but in 2003 you could get a c5 z06 for 50k brand new. That’s 83k in today’s money and you’re not touching a base z06 for that amount anymore.

Modern cars that even have "no options" are far more technologically advanced and have so many more features as standard equipment than even a fully loaded car with every single option available in 1969.

Cruise control, automatic remote door locks, anti-lock brakes with stability and traction assist, automatic headlamps, electronic engine management system, all the air bags (our cars have 8 if you didn't know) are all features and technologies that are standard on every "base" Camaro since 2016 that were completely unheard of in 1969. Cruise control was around but it was still only an option on high end cars like Cadillacs and Lincolns - not even available on Camaros until the late 70s.

Take all that stuff out and your sticker price sinks below $20k.

Was going to say, the cost of rebuilding my engine, I could afford ALL of those cars. :x
