2018 Mustang GT @ VIR

2018 Mustang GT, A10, PP1 on Virginia International Raceway. I know that the Lightning Laps performed by Car and Driver is on the Grand West Course so, I don't know how that differs from the full course but, this article can at least give you an idea of how it performed on the track in spite of it being devoid of lap times.

From the sounds of the drag race it had with the GT350 at the end, it should be a stout performer in a straight line but, I'd wager that the SS 1LE will still be superior to the GT PP1 car around the twisties. Unfortunately, there's no data on the PP2 cars as of yet.

Full course omits turns 13 through 19 in favor a long back straight.

So the A10 PP1 runs almost even with a 350 in the 1/4 mile. The GT 350 was tested at a 12.4-12.5. If that is what the auto does then the Mustang is still behind the SS.

"Door to door the whole time." So a 12.5 probably for the auto like I said. Also he said he topped out at 163 which I thought the GTs were limited to 155....

Not only that, it was also "rolling" drag race, which would have favored the GT350 even more.

So it was door to door throughout most of the race with the GT350 nudging it out at the end...and this was a 1/2 mile race with a rolling start. I don't know if that means the GT is fast or the Shelby is too slow for it's price. But I feel bad for the Shelby if it couldn't do better than that. I think the SS will nudge out the GT also and it'll beat the GT on the track in a convincing manner.

Surprising for sure. You would have thought that the added HP of the Shelby would have pulled especially after the 1/4. Hopefully I will get a chance to line up or roll up on one in the future, to see how fast they really are.

Well it depends on what you consider a pull to mean. Inching away can be pretty significant.

Don and I then traded cars with me hopping in my 2016 GT, and Don in the 2018. It is the first time I really wanted to add some modifications to my 2016 GT. All in all if I was thinking it was time for a new car, the 2018 Mustang GT is a no-brainer. It’s really as good as it gets out of the box below a $50,000 price tag.”

Except the $45K SS 1LE which is about to be featured in a Head 2 Head against a 2018 Mustang GT PP1 which it will wipe the floor with on track.

as far as straight line speed I don't think the GT350 is quite as fast as everyone thinks I've twice encountered one in my SS 1LE and when we had an even start the GT350 didn't pull away from me.
