Ported throttle body
Does it really do anything for throttle response , and if so, should it be done before dyno tune?..
auto SS car , planning a cam upgrade ( A wee SS1 , if I get the race bug , I'll get a 415 short block) and want to know the PTB concensus yeah or neh , Thanks all |

I have no experience either way, but have seen this question a million times and everyone says they can feel a difference in response.

Yes. It improves throttle response significantly.
Yes. Get it before tune, for no other reason but that’s your setup before and after the tune. Recommend Nick Williams TB. |

I have one of Bo's ported throttle bodies for years now. In an automatic it is definitely a must have. There's a noticeable improvement in throttle response. If you can get one ported by Bo, I highly recommend it!

I second Bo’s Tb, I’ve had mine for about 3 1/2 years. It was the first thing I did when I got my car.

Ported TB definitely improves throttle response. Doesn't matter before or after tune as you don't need to retune for a ported tb.

It's not necessary, but it's better with a tune.
A year ago I bought a TB from Soler Performance, uploaded a datalog and sent it Dynosteve for correction. He adjusted a couple of things and the change for the better is more than noticeable.

I got one of Bo's TBs years ago and it flowed so much air it went outside the parameters of the stock tune and threw it into limp mode. BTW, Bo was clear it could require tuning adjustments. Had the tune adjusted and it's worked perfect ever since. In other words, port the TB and then tune it.

I still have the VMAX ported TB I bought many moons ago. Before I got cammed and stalled, I had nothing but a CAI and the ported TB, and yea there is a signifcant improvement in throttle response!! I was really surprised at how much better it was over the stocker. One of the best mods I ever did in the beginning. No tune needed either. Been on the car for about 10 years now. If you can get one from Bo, do it. It is better than the VMAX one..

I would also like to add that even after the tune, the throttle response was still not quite as pleasant as I would have imagined. So I added a throttle body controller and only then was I satisfied.
But it is a question of the individual. Maybe just TB alone will be enough for you.
