I am not paying a $10k ADM fee for a new 23 M6 ZL1. I did the same thing calling around to several far flung states getting the same message about a 5k/10k "Market Adjustment". There are dealers around selling for MSRP and some are still accepting GM Employee/GM Supplier discounts. You just have to look. I found several in the Detroit area actually advertising the GM Employee discounts. A new site is also tracking dealerships with markups and no markups. https://www.markups.org/

Please, if you are a dealer reading this (or someone who knows of a rock solid dealer) and you know you can get me a car in the next 6mo or so, please contact me!
GM definitely wants to sell you cars - but it's not a good comparison to make between GM and Tesla because the business model is different. When you buy a Tesla, you are buying it from Tesla, the manufacturer. When you buy a Chevrolet, you are buying it from a middleman - a dealership that is independently owned - and not directly from GM. GM's order system with allocations is out of date with the current times because it's based on dealer franchises, which are actually mandated by state laws. Tesla has had many court battles trying to get those laws changed and/or work around them to sell directly to you.

All of this adds up to frustration for the buyer because it gives the dealers a grey area to screw around and do whatever they can to make extra money off of you. Many of them are straight shooters and do not work the system to take advantage of you - but many of them will rig the deals and process in their favor. The rare few will actively screw you over to make a buck. The challenge as the buyer is figuring out which dealer is which...

Regardless of all of that - I hope you get the car you want at a fair price...good luck!

I have an order in at msrp, but I'm #7 and not sure if that order is going to happen, given the current situation with GM, constraints, recession, etc

Thanks, didnt realize that about the dealerships and difference with Tesla. I am NOT an Elon Musk fan, but he definitely found a better way to do things, and the cars are pretty amazing, too. This is the future, for sure. Now that so many manufacturers are working with EVs, the innovation will be quick and substantial. It will be fun cruising around in the loud, brutish ZL1 when the roads are silent otherwise, thanks to all EVs everywhere that may be a reality sooner here where I am in the Bay Area, but I'd be shocked if we got to 2040 and ICE cars were still outnumbering EVs.

You lost me a bit at the bold comment.

GM wants your business, as much as anyone else. But there is a process, despite how much you hate it, and you are unfortunately cursed with a smaller dealership who doesn't seem to be too helpful.

Secondly, the latter half of this paragraph describes the fundamental flaws in the current process, and you can thank the freaking UAW and of course, the National Automotive Dealership Association for this crap. They are fighting tooth and nail to keep things the way they are, and preserve the existing dealership model because it's the way it is and they feel it's perfectly fine...

The real answer is that the current dealership model mostly just screws customers, and they get to enjoy the profits.

Look at people pre-ordering Lightnings, Hummers, and other cars months if not a year or more in advance with an assumption they will pay MSRP, only for them to finally show up and the dealership is like "Sweet, congrats, now pay us $30-60K more than MSRP or we won't sell it to you!"

Thank NADA and the UAW for that trash. It needs to be scrapped from the ground up, and rebuilt in a way that makes sense. We live in a world where ordering a car just like your Tesla is precisely how it should go, with no surprises when it decides to show up. Yet, here we are, because people fear change...that, or it impacts their bottom line, which is more often than not the actual reason change is feared.

I agree with much of the above. With that said, yesterday a different local dealer received a shipment of 3 ZL1s so I rushed down and bought a shadow grey coupe with a manual. So I'm done waiting now!

Thanks. They wanted 10k over msrp. Obv that was not going to happen. Got them down to 5, then 4...then realized I could also apply the $500 student credit (wife is in grad school). Since the 23 I ordered was going to be $3400 over this one anyway thanks to the price increase, I figured that it was a wash, and I paid the ADM. So with the gas guzzler tax and those few options (it also has the copper free brakes, because CA) it was like 70k + ttl. I'm good with that.

As long as you are comfortable with it, that's all that matters.

Good work.
